Oh, that is scary. Unfortuneately, I don't think there is a lot you can do to stop it. Hopefully as he gets older it will fade off. but my son has sleptwalked twice now, so I know its scary. First you need to be concerned about his safety. I would recommend putting some sort of gate across his doorway so at least he wouldn't be able to get out of his room when sleepwalking. If you can, alarm or deadbolt all the doors leading to the outside as well, so he can't get out. If he doesn't have one already, try putting a guardrail on his bed and any other barricade you can think of that may make it more difficult for him to get out of his bed. I also keep a baby monitor in my son's room still, so I may hear him get out before he gets too far.

When my son did it, as soon as I found him I just brought him right back to his bed, and he went right back to sleep. HOpe this helps!!

Hi. I study sleep disorders and this is very common. Sleep walking is a deep state of sleep that is caused by dreaming. The person thinks he/she is awake and can actualy turn corners, open doors and drive. It is very scary and can be very dangerious. Here are som helpful tips on making it easier for you and for your child.

1. Do NOT wake the person up! They have been known to become very violent and confused. If they are in no danger of getting hurt, just watch them and observe what they are doing or saying. Make a note of this and if it gets worse, show a docter the list.

2.Keep doors leading to stair ways, dangerous rooms and outside locked. People who sleepwalk have been known to go outside and wander in traffic or get lost. When they wake up the are very confused and panic, putting themself in more danger. For a 3 year old I reccomend using baby gates and slide bolt locks high enough that he/she cant reach.

3.Try not to give him sweets, or food at least 2 hours befor bedtime. For unknown reasons, food and sweets tend to over stimulate the brain and cause nightmares and sleepwalking.

4.Make sure all cabnits containing anything dangerous are fept locked. Child locks work well.

I hope this information helps you. It is a very good job to go and see a specialist on this. Sleepwalking is a serious condition and is addressed as one as well. As far as taking him back to bed, gently take his hand and very slowly lead him back to his room. Dont push it too hard though. I hope you find a specialist soon. Good luck!

i dont think you can stop it, but maybe get a baby gate to keep him in his room. also, i dont know if this is true, but i heard that if you wake someone from sleepwalking then they could go into shock, like i said, i do not know if that is true. but my neice would sleep walk and if i saw her i would just re-direct her back to bed and say good night.

I would talk to a Dr. and put a baby gate in his door way so he cannot get out and hurt himself. Get a monitor so you can hear when he gets up.
