Tuberculosis is a chronic, progressive infection with a period of latency following initial infection. It occurs most commonly in the lungs. Pulmonary symptoms include productive cough, chest pain, and dyspnea. Diagnosis is by sputum culture and smear. Treatment is with multiple antimicrobial agents. (Merck)
A rising number of people in the developed world contract tuberculosis because their immune systems are compromised by immunosuppressive drugs, substance abuse, or HIV/AIDS. The rise in HIV infection levels and the neglect of TB control programs have caused a resurgence of tuberculosis. Drug-resistant strains of TB have emerged and are spreading (in 2000-2004, 20% of cases were resistant to standard treatments, and 2% were also resistant to second-line drugs). (Wikipedia)

Tuberculosis is out there and yes people do catch it from others who are infected. IF you are diagnosed with TB there are very specific medications that only a physician can prescribe.
IF you think you have TB, go see a pulmonary specialist or at least an internist. The disease is very communicable. Did you know you can have permanent disabilities or die from it?
