My ear drum has ruptured 2 times in just under 3 months, and a total of 3 times all together. I have a history of ear infections and ear aches, im 34 and there just now wanting to put tubes in. My question is is having tubes put in painful afterwards and if so how long does the pain last? Im a big baby and hate the thought of pain! lol. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Actually, having tubes put in would be less painful than the ear infection pain. Usually, there is no pain involved afterward, and you should be able to do normal activities by the next day. The tubes will help the ear drain, so you won't have the pressure that causes the eardrum to rupture.

You have to weigh each of the pain questions separately. If the pain of having the tubes put in is worrying you, remember each time you get an ear infection or rupture your ear drums you loose part of your hearing, that will never come back. Infections in the ear or ear canal can very quickly become out of control and anti-biotics only help for a little while. It is your call. Chose wisely. It is your life and your hearing.

My ear drum ruptures when I was 18 for the same reason. I did get my hearing back after about 6 months. However, I continued to have problems with hearing in that ear and I am still recovering from surgery to replace 2 bones and my ear drum. My case is rare so please don't fret. You should be back to normal soon!

Both my children had tubes put in their ears due to excessive fluid caused by allergies. My son was actually deaf prior to the insertion of tubes. There is immediate RELIEF not pain. Go for it. You will feel like a new person.

Big baby just do it. If your ear drum is broke I would imagine the pain drops you to your knees. Get to a doc A.S.A.P. They put you out to fix you so it or you won't know if it hurts or not. You'll be surprised at how well you will be able to hear and no more pain. YIPPY!!

There is no pain with tubes in your ears. I had that done twice as a child.
