The problem with the massive electrical rate increase is not only are the electric companies to blame but so are the politicians. We should have never froze rates for 10 years. I much rather pay gradual increases than like the one I got. My bill was up 300%. That is right 300%. I have a total electric house. Five years ago the electric companies told consumers in Southern Illinois to go electric as it was cheaper plus we will give you a huge discount on rates. Then in the last 2 years, Ameren starting buying up all the smaller electric companies. On Jan. 1, 2007, the froze came off, and they are not destroying businesses and households alike.

The politicians let it happen in January by doing nothing. Oh, don't forget, many of these politicians received campaign funds from the eletric company so why would they not let the freeze come off. But alass, they faild to see that the cost of electric hits them too and the government. Madison County Jail was paying $3k a month but in January it jumped to $10K.

Corporate greed being pushed by greedy shareholders cause this hardship. And politicians who do not care about the ones who elected them don't care either.

Time for a change poeple! We need to bring the government back to the people. Stop voting for democrats and republicans. Look at a new alternative, the Green Party.

Can't be any worse than Delmarva Power in Delaware. 59% increase last spring. They too cried poor when they were making huge profits. I know personally several mid level employees who own new Corvettes, a new Saturn Sky, 3/4 million dollar homes, huge boats, and are always traveling on exotic vacations, while we sit in darkened rooms watching TV in a cold house. How do you say BS!

As someone who has experienced it, it sucks! There was an article in the paper yesterday about the multi-million dollar salaries and bonuses the top executive at Ameren are making, but if they don't increase our rate, they will go bankrupt. Huh?
