I always hear christians say that since something is a theory it has no more basis than a piece of scripture. However, they are fundamentally different and have no comparison. Scientific method is defined as: "principles and procedures for the systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses"

Science does not claim to have all the answers and the reason for theory is so that ideas can be developed indefinitely. Theory has allowed us to travel to space, make computers, perform amazing medical feats and countless other great things. Yet SOME christians still discount theory as being something that was "made up". Usually these arguements stem from creationism vs. evolution. When you study both sides of the arguement, one has facts the other has no verifiable data. Where is the verifiable credibility in faith?

The definition you looked at is completely off base in respect to scientific theory. Scientific theory has very little speculation. You can speculate but no one will take you seriously until you quantify some results based on experimentation (real world results). If you do an experiment in faith, will the results show a tangible result?

I respect your reply, note that I said in my question "SOME" christians. There are many out there like you that have positive ideas about faith, its the ones that turn a blind eye to the scientific method that really confuse me. If God gave us these amazing brains, would he not be ashamed that we would ignore the wonderous discoveries he has placed in our universe. If anything maybe SOME christians should reevaluate the depth of thier definition of god and question whether ancient writings are in line with what we see in reality today.

Not all do. I am a Christian with all my heart. I believe that God created matter when there was none. Therefore there was a helluva Big bang. I also believe that Adam and Eve was a story just as there are so many metaphorical stories in the bible. Man evolved. I believe in all science has proved and some even suggested and not Yet proved. I find no hypocrisy or ambiguity in my beliefs. And I never attend organized religion's meetings because I can read the bible and other books that go along with it, by myself. I resent being lumped into one type of Christian category by you and all the others.
Thank you if you read this.

"Faith" is, by definition, acceptance without demonstration. As such it is not subject to the scientific method. As a religious person I know that many thing I accept and believe cannot be proved, that is why I take them on faith alone. There is no need, in matters of faith, for "verifiable credibility".

That's just it.....

We're asked to prove this and prove that as Christians.....

The proof is all around is in creation. God has proven Himself over and over again.....it's the athiests that refuse to see the wonder of it all.

real simple, open up a dictonary and define "theory" and you realize you have not a foot to stand on.
