People ARE doing things about it -- reducing the amount of greenhouse gasses spewed into the atmosphere, for one. (The current administration of the US won't -- which is one reason we hate them.)

In fact, I recently read on a science news site that, by banning the Ozone-eating gasses, we slowed the greenhouse effect -- so it IS possible to do things.

A school near me converted to solar and other clean power -- they now pay pennies a month for power, thereby NOT contributing greenhouse gasses.

People are studying and trying to implement clean energy. They don't get the support they should, but they're trying.

Do what you can yourself, in how you live your life -- live green whenever you can.

You could study and become one of the people who solves this problem by helping develop alternative sources of energy, and making them efficient and cheap and more prevalent.

You can speak out -- publish, educate.

You could become an educator so people understand both the science and the ethics of this problem.

There ARE people doing what they can.

When you can vote, learn about candidates, and work for those who would deal with this problem -- and campaign for them.

You're wrong that no one actually gives a damn -- if that were true, you wouldn't even know about it, right?

So, educate yourself on what you can do, and support those who are working on the problem, and fight those who would have us ignore it (not with fists, with the law and with words and with evidence and reason).

And, by the way, you'll be more effective if you don't approach this problem as being all about YOU.

It's for everyone, human and non-human alike.

The earth is warming; how much of that man is causing is debatable. Al Gore is an alarmist. He's predicting 20 foot sea level rises, the science community predicts 1 foot in the next few centuries. The problem is there but the media are overstating it; it sells magazines and papers.

The earth has gone through many cycles like this in the past that obviously were not caused by mankind. It is indeed probably caused by nature more than mankind. The sun itself is putting out .05% more energy every decade and that may be the largest contributor. Just don't panic.

Doctor risk, where is your evidence that no previous warming has been faster than the present warming? Is the the "science" according Dr Risk?

Quite simply, the science does not support your statement at all, but shows exactly the opposite. Read the Roeper paper on the Current Major Interglacial, and you'll see that ice core data from both antarctica and greenland show both temperatures that are warmer than present and warming rates that are faster than present in the last 10,000 years alone.

Don't accuse others of ignoring science when your own statements are contrary to the scientific evidence.

Let me put the question another way around...

Man, why don't we just put up with the global warming. I mean the evidence isn't even convincing that its man made - not one of the climate models get the last century's temperatures right - they all overestimate the middle 40 years.

And to make a meaningful change means the US and Europe using about 75% less fossil fuel. This is unreal. And even with what is planned thats 1% to 2% less GDP - thats loads of unemplyment, more poor people, everyone less well off.

And we are forcing African's to not develop at all. We make them use so little fuel if they want aid that they cannot even have electricity. Man we are killing the third world sowe can have Burger King. Man we are so selfish.

First of you will live your whole life everyone does for some it ends earlier than others however.

Second have you heard of the iceage?

Our planet goes through NATURAL cycles right now we our coming out of a iceage. It's a very slow process we have been in for longer than any of us have been around. It's only logical that as we come out of a iceage that warming would have to occur.

Third how can we prove global warming?

We have no proof of earths climate and temperatures beyond recent recorded history to prove global warming is caused by man and not a natural process we would need records of what happened as we came out of previous iceages.

So if i where you i would not worry to much.

Having said all that i do believe we should cut polution as much as possible as there are health risks that came be proven. Besides who wants to live in smog filled cities.

It is an issue, clearly. Many people who lack facts like to claim this is purely a natural thing. These people are liars or idiots.

Indeed, we have had MANY warming and cooling periods -- but not at this rate. Climate models say that this is almost certainly the result of mankind and the fools and liars keep spewing the "science" of Rush.

So the main problem is the stupid people -- but unfortunately, there is little one can do about stupid people.

An ice age is a period of long-term reduction in the temperature of Earth's climate, resulting in an expansion of the continental ice sheets, polar ice sheets and mountain glaciers ("glaciation"). Glaciologically, ice age is often used to mean a period of ice sheets in the northern and southern hemispheres; by this definition we are still in an ice age (because the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets still exist).

As we are still IN an ice age, I find it arrogant that we, as humans feel the need to stop the warming of the earth (which is it's natural cycle) because it's more comfortable for us. I believe we need to adapt to our changing climate like any other species. If we don't learn to adapt, then we don't deserve to continue as a flourishing species.

It wasn't that long ago that scientists were screaming "Global Cooling" and were proposing to send up artificial clouds of dirt to help keep it warmer in our atmosphere. I hate all this arrogant pseudo-science. The earth will do what the earth will do.
