Boot to floppy using WinMe Startup floppy disk and type:

Format C:

Back up all your personal data first.

Its the D drive you need to format. Make sure you have the Windows ME floppy AND the windows 97 disc both inside the computer before you try this. Then format D. Be patient. It takes a while. Then when its done, restart the computer with both floppy and disc still inside and follow the simple steps.

the windows me disc should be bootable.
just insert and reboot, you will get the choice to reformat and then reinstall

formatting in ME and XP are similar, you should get the option to format during the installation process

you have to use a boot disk and use fdisk.exe
