As a previous answer stated, they eat carrion. It's a great service to the world. They clean up all the dead things for us. And, even though it's not particularly nice to think about they also pick off the weak and sick animals. They also eat heaps and heaps of insects. I've never tried it myself but I have been told that nothing will eat a crow/raven because their diet of carrion makes their meat particularly unpleasant tasting. Aside from that, they are incredibly intelligent birds.

READ THIS PROPERLY AND COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU START MOPING AGAIN ! ! !

As you're so obviously unable to talk to the human variety of birds there's no need to start on the feathered ones you know - oh, and you could brighten your life up by using the spell checker and then looking at the results. It's amazing how more tolerant people would be if they were presented with something smartly prepared, and THEN APPLY THE SAME REASONING TO YOURSELF. Clean yourself up, put some neat clothes on and get yourself out. STOP looking for the "dreaded hoodies" - they won't take any notice of you if you walk proudly past them, go for a walk in the park (Oh YES there IS a park near you.....), and any time a lady - no matter what age - comes by with a dog, try to go and stroke the dog, but ask the lady if she doesn't mind you doing that. first. You'll find that after a few times people will accept your friendship and give you some in return. So how's that for a start ?????
Perhaps you could let us know in a future question how you get on by starting with something like 'I met this lady with her dog in the park and....' and then go on, but make sure it's a question.

Crows and ravens are very smart and if nothing else they clean up road kill. I like having crows and ravens around because I have chickens that are free roaming and the crows let me know if there is a hawk around. They mate for life and when you see a group it is a family.

They generally have typing or other admistrative jobs during the day, that's why they disappear.

Actually, they do have work to do scavaging and finding food. They will hunt for small prey (frogs, etc) but also do a lot of scavaging for their meals. That is a full time job.

Crows and ravens eat carrion when they can (I often see them gathering around roadkill), thus helping to keep areas clean of dead animals.

Disposal of carrion. Nice little evolutionary niche, everything must die, so there is never shortage of food.
