AFTER FACIAL SURGERY OR ANY SURGERY THAT ALTERS YOUR APPEARANCE YOU WILL GO INTO A SORT OF A DEPRESSION, THIS HAS BEEN SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN. THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT THE CHANGE TO YOUR APPEARANCE IS PROFOUND EVEN IF IT IS MINOR...REMEMBER THAT YOU HAVE SEEN YOUR OLD FACE FOR 20 OR 30 YEARS AND NOW IT CHANGES, SO YOU ARE NOT ALWAYS WILLING TO ACCEPT IT. YOU MAY LOOK AMAZING AFTER SURGERY, BUT THE DEPRESSION MAKES YOU FEEL THAT YOU ARE NOT BETTER LOOKING EVENTHOUGH YOU MAY BE 100% MORE GORGEOUS. THE DEPRESSION IS WORST IN THE 4 WEEKS AFTER SURGERY SO I SUGGEST YOU KEEP AWAY FROM PPL WHO MAY GIVE YOU NEGATIVE COMMENTS. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH LOVED ONES. AFTER THE 4 WEEKS, YOU START FEELING BETTER AND THEN YOU REALISE HOW GOOD YOU LOOK. THIS DEPRESSION HAS BEEN SHOWN TO LAST FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS TO A YEAR POST OP. IT IS BEST TO SEEK PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELLING BEFORE AND AFTER SURGERY TO HELP YOU COPE. I SEND ALL MY PATIENTS FOR THIS AND IT HELPS ALOT.

My ex SIL did when she was 18 and it gave her self confidence she didn't have before. Her lower jaw was too far back and was pulled forward to give her a more normal expression. She looked scowly all the time. It also helped with the headaches she had at the time too by getting everything aligned correctly. She had to deal with 3 months of antibiotics and a jaw wired shut but it was worth it in the long run.
