Under Thai customs it is honorable and expected that a husband would be proud to support his inlaws for raising a fine daughter. Marriage is truly a coming together of two families. So, I would suggest you start considering the fact that once you're married you'll need to help support them as best you can afford.
However, a boyfriend is not a husband and is not (yet) responsible for supporting her family. Unless you know her really really well, this is often a scam. Bar girls often earn income from several guys living abroad while she hopes one will eventually lead to marriage.
If you are not aware of Thai marriage customs, the guy needs to pay a lot. You need to negotiate a price with her parents. Depending upon her family and your income, the price can be stacks of cash, gold or even houses.
I suggest you read some books such as "Thai for Lovers" and "Culture Shock Thailand."

Please do not get caught out in this scam. I am speaking form experience as airline cabin crew. A friend of mine started seeing a Thai and bought them a mobile phone and was sending money ever month. While we were down there without my friend we saw that person out with someone else and doing the same with them. Do not get involved despite how honest the person seems.

Can't really say, just be very careful though. I know too many people who are in the same boat as you. They invest so much time and money in these so called "relationships" and then the girls just end up scamming them in the end once they clean out your account. You should lie and say you don't have any money, and see how they react to that first.

Unless you know this girl really well i.e. you have met her and her family on several occassions, then I would not be sending any cash - there are too many people out there just looking for any easy ticket into another country or to make money out unsuspecting strangers.

dont send her anything, she and her family will bleed you dry. If you love her, then go and get her and take her home with you. and only give her an allowance, of which if she wants to send her family money she can.
Unless you are super rich and can afford to be bankrupt in no time at all.

Wham, bam, thank you mane, and get out of dodge as fast as your legs will take you. Thai woman have a bad reputation of scamming you. They lie, cheat and steal, even the so called religious Buddhist ones. If you ever catch her in a lie, that is the first clue to dump the *****. It is not worth your effort to even bother with these woman. Don't break your heart over the lost of these beautiful daughters of Satan, they don't give a damn about you except for your money. These painted devils are absolutely beautiful, but underneath all that makeup lies a wolf ready to eat you up alive, and believe me they will. My advice if you care to take it is keep your money and go find yourself another woman will love you for you, and not your money. And don't fall apart when they shed crocodile tears for you, and promise you the moon in love. Once you are out of their sight they'll be humping and pumping another dumb soul. Good luck to you my friend.
