what are some questions that demand more than a one-word
or one sentence answer. What are some questions that I can ask and might reveal
something about that person. What are some questions that challenge
(but certainly not insult) a person.

3. What kind of music do you listen to?
4. What do you look for in a girl you're dating?
5. What your idea of a perfect date?
6. Do you have any brothers or sisters?
7. What do you parents do?
8. What do you want to do when you get out of school? (assuming thier in school) -OR- What do you do?
9. What's your favorite movie and why?
10. What's your favorite book and why?
11. What was the last concert you went to?
12. What are your hobbies?
13. Do you play any sports? What's your favorite?
14. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
15. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
16. What was the best thing you remember about your childhood?
17. What was the worst thing you remember about your childhood?
18. Do you go to church?
19. What are some of your beliefs?
20. Would you like to go out some time?

Ok, so I was grasping at straws on some of them. It's easier to come up with questions during a conversation than to sit here and come up with a list. It was actually much harder than I thought it'd be.

Who is your best friend, how long have they been your best friend, how often do you see them, and why are they considered your best friend? What qualities in a person to you value above all others? What qualities were you not be able to tolerate in a person or would cause you to end the friendship? How close are you to your siblings, which one are you closest to and why? What do you 'want to be when you grow up'? Have you ever co-habitated with someone else? What was the length of your longest relationship? Did you have a highschool sweetheart and what happened in that relationship? Are you a dog or cat person? etc....

These are questions with follow ups that can be revealing.

What do you do for a living?
How did you get into that line of work? (this really gives you an insight to the person)

Did you have many brothers and sisters?
What was that like?

What is your sign? Hobbies, likes, dislikes, job, family like, what country would you like to visit or have already, do you ever want to get married, sports, tv shows, music, movies, like to shop alot,like camping,sun-bathing, swimming, the moon and the stars, dancing, bar life,pets, any illnesses, foods, cars, are you financially set.........................

There's always a long story behind that....

Where do you live, do you like it there? Is it safe, fun, interesting?

I think Tom's "who is your best friend and why?" is the best question. You can't choose your family, but you can always choose your best friend.
