depends by what you mean by opting out.. you are committed to 8 years total, but if yoru contract onlystated that you serve 6 years Active duty, than you can opt not to re enlist for th efinal two years and go intothe IRR or the Reserves. But if you extended or re enlisted, you are required to complete the terms of that.

No. You're committed to the 8 yrs. Plus whatever time period past the 8 yrs that you are eligible to be called back.
One way out early is if your wife left you - and your child/ren. I've seen several people able to get out due to family hardship (this was the hardship discharge). If you win the lottery or get a substantial inheritance I've heard you can exit the military sooner.
