One of the things that needs to happen to have cancer is a lack of oxygen to the part of the body that becomes cancerous. The heart has it's own, separate blood vessel system from the lungs that supplies it with 25% more oxygen than the rest of the body.
The above answers seem to be quoting textbooks--if you ask around, you will not be able to find many doctors who have ever seen a case of heart cancer in their entire careers, it is so rare--and it is usually brought on by a partially-blocked blood vessel due to atherosclerosis, which causes a lack of oxygen to a part of the heart.

Cardiac tumors may be primary (benign or malignant) or metastatic (malignant). Myxoma, a benign primary tumor, is the most common type. Cardiac tumors may occur in any cardiac tissue; they can cause valvular or inflow-outflow tract obstruction, thromboembolism, arrhythmias, or pericardial disorders. Diagnosis is by echocardiography followed by biopsy. Treatment of benign tumors is usually surgical resection; recurrence is common. Treatment of metastatic malignancy depends on tumor type and origin; prognosis is generally poor.
Please see the web pages for more details and images on Cardiac tumors (Myxomas).
