I bought a king-size bed with foundation and frame and I'm having it delivered to my second-story apartment. The price of the bed kind of wiped me out, so I don't have the means to be overly generous, but I want to be fair and not let the men leave angry in terms of tip.

Since I'm certainly not going to tip 15% of the bed's price, what is a fair amount to tip? Also, do I hand money to each member of the crew or just one with the understanding that it's for all of them?

I just want to come out of this situation looking polite, despite being poor!

Those who are telling me "you don't tip for this service" -- no, I am going to tip. The consensus among those giving me a monetary amount seems to be $5 each, so I may go with that.

If delivery is part of the service offered by the retailer, I don't think you need to tip. You could, however, offer $5 each for their two-story trouble, and maybe a Coke!

It is really up to you, if there is a extra problem in the delivery yes you tip like $5.00 per person. If no stairs or such and delivery is very easy, just a nice smile and thank you is appropriate. If the delivery does not go the way it should, or is not what you think you paid for, complain and get it straightened out. Make sure before they even take the items out of the truck that what you have on your receipt, matches what they have on their orders. Good Luck

After many moves, and delivery of store purchases -
I have tipped each worker a five - sometimes a ten - dollar bill.
The 15 percent figure is for meal service, not delivery workers.

Unless they do something above and beyond, then you don't tip them.

How easy is it to get the mattress up stairs? Do they have to do anything "abnormal" for the assembly of the foundation?

At most, I would tip them $5 dollars each, but again, that would be on the upper end of the spectrum.

If you're paying for a delivery service, you do not need to tip them. You are already paying for the extra service.

Why tip.....these delivery men are paid an hourly or salaried rate by their employer.
