I made plans to get braces for a long time and when I finally decided to get them I notice that my gums are bleeding when I brush my teeth and I can see plaque form near my gum line.
Would I still be able to get braces or do I have to wait until this clears up if so how long?

Only a dentist and orthodontist can tell you the wait time. You should start by getting a cleaning if you haven't already done so. Then you should see an orthodontist. If you don't know any, you can get your dentist to recommend someone to you or you could ask around or check the phone book. Most orthodontists offer consultations for little to no fee. You should check with at least 2 since prices and treatment options may vary. I wish you the best of luck.

Well for one I doubt you have periodontal disease..you may just have gingivitis which if you don't get it taken care of by getting a cleaning could turn into periodontal disease. That is where the bone is lost due to subgingival calculus. But go to a dentist, get your teeth cleaned then ask about braces.

Teeth are long, short, wide, narrow--that should not be your concern. Be concerned about receding gums, bleeding gums, bumps or rough patches on your gums, discolored gums, gums that are exposing the roots of your teeth, teeth that grow out sideways, crowded teeth that push the others out of alignment. If money is an issue, go to your university's dental program RIGHT NOW. Be sure they do a full mouth of x-rays to see if their are cavities between then teeth. Once you are checked and fixed up, it is important to continue a dental program by seeing a dentist every six months for a cleaning and recheck. Emergency places are just that. They take care of emergencies. They are not there for the long haul.

First, you have to go get your teeth cleaned. Let then heal. Then, you can go get those braces.
