OK, I know this is really bad....but I need to go grocery shopping...anyway, I want to make steaks for dinner tonight, but I don't know how to work the grill (freezing outside anyway).

Can you cook them in the pan? What about inside the oven? If so how, and how long?

I was going to toss them in the slow cooker, but it is too late for that...

I could do chicken fried steaks...as a last resort, since I always do that.

You can place them on your broiler pan, season them anyway you like, place your oven on high BROIL and cook them for about 3-4 minuted on each side for medium rare, a little longer for more doneness. They usually come out great.

Here's how I cook steaks in the pan.
Coat the pan with just enough olive oil to cover the bottom. Heat on 3/4 high heat. Season your steak with seasonings and toss in. Cook about 5 minutes on the first side (for thick steaks) or 4 minutes for a thinner steak. Turn and cook one minute less on the second side. Should seer the outside and leave the inside good and pink. Olive oil makes it taste like its been cooked in butter, but without all the bad stuff. If you like it a little more done then add a minute each side. Its a hit around here!

If you're putting them in the oven, you can marinate them as you would for the grill, and then broil them. They don't taste as perfect as they would on the grill, but they are good that way.

I think you usually do anywhere from 7-15 minutes on each side, depending on thethickness of the meat.

My husband always makes stir fry type meals on the stove with steak. If you're going grocery shopping and you like Teryaki Sauce, get the one that's called very very teryaki or something like that.
It's got a white label with lettering in blue, some written in japenese. It is the BEST sauce at home i've ever had. You can broil them and put it on, or put it in a wok or skillet on stove with some veggies. It tastes fantastic. And serve it with rice.

You can cook them in a fry pan. Use a small amount of oil on the bottom and preheat the pan. This helps from the meat sticking. Also let the steaks get to room temp before cooking. You can also use your broiler on the stove. I cheat and use a knife to see how well done they are.

The first answer is correct... I have often broiled steaks in the oven. I make a light steak sauce . Combine butter and fresh garlic, some parsley... and thinly sliced onion. Saute this until the onions begin to slightly wilt. Spoon over steaks. Yum !

Your best bet would be to do them in the broiler. put the rack up on the top setting. How you like your steaks depends on how long you cook them.
