The reason that I have confidence in the non-existance of God, is simply that I believe only in the natural. Gods, angels, etc are supernatural.
If I had the tinyest bit of evidence of anything supernatural, I would consider. So far I haven't found anything to support the supernatural, which is only wishful superstition.
You asked how non-believers can be so confident ? The same question could be asked of believers. If the answer is that some people scribbled notes that were found and made into a book years ago. That may be proof to some, it's just old writings, of no special interest to me.

Well up until about 150 years or so ago we didnt have a little something called, FREE EDUCATION in britain anyway. And what education has allowed us to do is use our own minds and rationale to decide things for ourselfs. Nobody can actually know for certain if he does or doesnt but you see i just find it inconcievable to believe that there is a being that was meant to create the earth and man when we all know that what the bible tells us differs from reality.
god created earth then light, but the sun made the earth so therefor wasnt light before the earth
god made the earth in 7 days, if he was perfect then couldnt he make it in one.
what about the rest of the universe
why are there so many religions surely we'd all believe the same one
we evolved from dingle cells through millions of years to be humans the bible says nothing
Gods perfect - hello. volcanoes = death = god isnt perfect
why does he make an entire continent suffer
there is so much more as to why we should doubt the existance of god, as i said i dont discredit it altogether i just find it inconceivable

Education has nothing to do with it, in that sense. People come to believe such things due to experiences that they have had. If you had never had a religious experience, chances are you wouldn't be "religious". Sooner or later, the lack of experience will make you come to believe that the experiences aren't real at all.
It's easy to be confident when you "know" you are right. It is no different than you being confident that there is something there.

Because we look at it in different ways than you do. You look and say there HAS to be something there, while we say why? Why does there HAVE to be something up there watching us and trying to force us to follow it? WHy would an all powerful and loving god try and forcce us to worship it, I know that I am a very nice and loving person but I don't force people to like me or love me or follow me it just happens. You call it superb I call it myth. I call it a figment of your imagination a delusion, you say there is no way it can't be true. Its all in how you look at it and what questions you ask. If you ask the right ones then maybe you'll see the truth.

There are no doubt other beings in other realms of existence. I just don't believe in the god of the bible or any god that cultures have worshiped.
i ask myself, would a true loving god let the world go on like this if he had the means to change it? What's the purpose of 8000 children dying DAILY in Africa from disease and starvation.? What can that possibly achieve? And that's the tip of the iceberg, add in the rest of the starving and diseased children around the world, then add in the adults and ones who are suffering from abuse from family or governments.
Think of the total of suffering every second on this planet and then try to justify some supreme being letting it go on.
what reason for this suffering would make honest sense to you?
That's why I believe there is no outside force that's doing anything.

It's interesting to hear that you assume all atheists are scornful of religion. My experience is that I know many atheists who not only respect religion, but feel a little left out of the mainstream because religion scorns them.

Atheist are confident because they know that no religion can prove the existence of its God or Gods.
Religious People are so confident because they know that no one can disprove the existence of their God or Gods because it is about Faith.
So you have Faith - vs - Scientific proof
Its not an apple to apple comparison, and when you compare an apple to an orange, there is no right or wrong , you have an apple and an orange.

Most atheists used to be religious. It's sort of like why you don't believe in Santa Claus when your grow up, only a lot more complicated.
I don't feel any qualms about calling religious people delusional, but I used to be delusional myself. I used to preach delusion. I converted people to delusion. Which is why I am so vocal today about stopping the delusion.
Maybe someday you will wake up and realize the truth. Most likely you won't.

A lot of atheists have come from a very religious background and think that everyone had as miserable of an experience with religion as they did.
The comments of primoa19… above are a great example of the behavior that makes many hate religion.
