My male kitty got neutered recently, just yesterday in fact. He's doing well, eating and drinking as he's supposed to, but even after We picked him up I haven't seen any stitches on him. Is this because he's a black cat and the stitches are black as well, or is it because of something else? He has not been licking or biting at the area, and the incision is doing well, with no bleeding or discharge... or stitches. He's about 13 months old, mixed breed kitty with no extra health problems besides occasional spraying.

Our boys were all neutered and they used a form of superglue on all of them. According to our vet that way we didn't have to return to have stitches removed. There was also less chance of infection setting in due to the cat trying to clean the stitches themselves.

Neutering

When a male cat is neutered, his testicles are removed after applying an anesthesia. Often, the cuts to remove the testicles are so small the cat doesn’t require stitches or sutures in order to heal. A male cat should be neutered by around 6 months of age.

Neutering is not the same as a feline vasectomy. With a vasectomy, the cat is sterilized, but the cat will still be territorial. This means he will still spray and wander for a mate.
Yes the vet could have used surgical glue because the incision is so small. You probably won't even be able to find the incision.

Good luck

I don't think that male cats get stitches. I believe that it is only the females. I never saw any stitches on any of my male cats after being neutered. I think it's because they don't have to go inside the body to do it, whereas with females there reproductive stuff is inside.

i work at a vet clinic and we do no use stitches or glue, the scrotum skin is to thin and leaving the incision open allows for drainage. the incision is a very small and is superficial , there are no muscles or thick skin that is cut during the procedure.

Most vets use surgical glue, because the incision is very small. Your cat may not have stitches.

No, they don't have stitches, they're not needed, there's nothing there to put pressure on it so the skin stays together. If anything was needed, vets tend to use a special glue these days.

They do not get any stiches after their surgery. I just had my male kitty neutered a couple of weeks ago and he didn't have any stiches. The vet has a different way to do the surgery that doesn't require any stiches.

Erin is correct on this. Your vet may have used glue on your furry friend. I have two neutered males and the same was done to both of them. My vet said that they usually heal much faster if they glue it. Also, please don't worry about trying to remove the glue. It will either naturally fall of in a couple of days, or he will pull it off himself.

Yes, there is an incision that must be closed after a neuter. You may not see stiches because the vet used glue instead.
