The reason why we are in the mess we are in is because of greed orientation. The only way to stop it is by looking at oursleves and how we do what we do.

Muhatmah Ghandi said 'If you want to change the world, start by changing in yourself that which causes you problems'.

What misery, because man cannot change himself.

The thousands of years of world history bear miserable testimony to this desperate fact.

He is in bondage to sin.

Is there any that does not sin?

" Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? "

What sadness to stumble upon some truth but not be able to do anything about it.

But therein may be the first possible step to deliverance.

What does Christ say? " If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. "

What even greater, appalling sadness to have the only way of deliverance and reject or ignore it.

Truly man is in a miserable estate.

The ego is the source of all my fears, prejudices, bitterness, resentment and so on. The ego separates me from the rest of existence and wants me to be right all the time and run away from the things which I see as negative. The heart is the key to my eternal joy and happiness, the heart never gets it wrong, with the heart I can take on anything I wish without the negative emotions getting in the way. If I use my intelligence along with my heart then I would see the world in a wholly perspective. The ego has done its job, but now is the time to start listening to my heart again. Just telling people that doesn't really mean anything though. It's like telling an alcoholic that what they are doing is destroying themselves and the people around them.... do they stop? No. Not till THEY want to make that change. You can not force these changes on other people. As Ghandi pointed out...... you can only change yourself.

When they realise that there is more to get from life than the sound of their own voice and praise from others. The people you describe aren't normally the ones causing the mess, when people start caring for others and accepting responsibility things might be different.

Ghandi was right in principle, but he didn't expose the underlying problem, which is our sinful natures. Facing up to that is the first step to deflate our egos. But our egos deny the truth of our pride! We deceive ourselves all the time! And our hearts are part of the problem. "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?" and "The pride of your heart has deceived you" (Jeremiah 17:9 & Obadiah vs 3). Only God can reveal to us our true state, and provide the remedy. He changes people!

That's a nice question, Ghandi was right. Mind you the heart also needs to heed reason and vice versa.

All that's important is that you listen to your heart.. They'll always be people with inflated egos - probably always have. But there are also people who listen to their heart. They just don't wave flags about it. There's nothing wrong with inflated egos: they kind of hold a mirror up to our own ego (that's what makes them such a pain) - and make us go deeper.

I agree with Sasi...some people put themselves out there as being a lovely person, speaking of peace and believing their wonderful...but as sasi said the heart is deceitful...hard to take, and won't be popular, but never the less true...
Well said Sasi...only God knows the true state of our hearts...and exposes it...
