My 13 year old daughter colored her long dirty blonde hair into a deep redish brown. It looks so dull on her. Without having to go spend $100's at a salon to correct this, is there any way to "lighten" the color back or at least go to a light brown? Help!!!!

Please do not try to lighten at home with a drugstore product it turns out alot worse 99% of the time. Its sooo not worth the damage, worry and money buying a ton of stuff to fix yet another hair mistake. The color will fade some over time. I would shampoo it with a harsh detergent like tide with bleach this will help, also deep condition it and rinse it with 1 cup lemon juice to a gallon of water. Try to sit in the sun and swim in the pool both will oxidize the color a little. If you still hate it after 4 to six weeks try a highlighter kit one that colors a base color then adds lighter streaks.Blue cancels red on the color wheel so get an Ash or cool color as close to the natural haircolor as possible. Good luck.

Did she use permanent color? If so, it will lighten a bit in the next week or so, but not as much as you'd like. Wash it several times with a strong shampoo (a clarifying shampoo, or even dish liquid) to get as much color out as possible. There is a color remover on the market that I have used, but you would have to recolor because she would end up with a light reddish/yellow color. It's by L'Oreal, I buy it at CVS. Before you do that though, please call the helpline # on the box of color (you can also get it on the company's website), they can advise you best. Sheesh, at least she didn't use black!

You can use dander shampoo to help fade it into her hair, also hand soap works too. Only you have to let conditioner sit for about 2-3minutes on hair afterwards for both are drying.

Within a week of doing this the hair should be faded close to her natural color.

If you do not like the results by then wait 7 days after first dying it and pick a color closes to her natural and redye it.

if her hair is straight go get a perm solution and run it thru. follow the directions except for wrapping it in perm rods.
comb the product thru the hair with a comb (a comb without little snaggy things on it) ; a new comb. do not let it tangle.

a little bit of advise?
if she's doing it at 13 she'll be doing it at 25. send her to school to learn what she's doing so she won't mess it up TOO badly when she gets older.
lol
what's worse than spending $200 to get your 13 year old's hair fixed? having to pay it for your 25 year old daughter.

****insight****
i have a client who is 25. she's been my client since she was 13 and had colored her hair herself. she still does it and i still fix it. she has given me SO MUCH MONEY it's UNREAL!

hope it helped some
take care

Hey!!!!!
Stop, Spend the money to get it fixed proffessionally,
not hard to do, just have them put some highlights to break up the color, and look more blond, she should be able to go for a few months.

You would have to use hair bleach, and if you don't like the white-ish blonde that results, you'll have to use a blonde or brown dye.

You could always try adding highlights, it would probably make her hair look more vibrant.

You could try dawn dish detergent, it may lessen the color. I'm not sure if you can color over top of just colored hair.
