How do the auto insurance company work, do they go out of state to find driving records

unfortunately for you, insurance companies look at your entire driving record not just your points total of the state in which you live out of state citations typically don't add points to your driving record but insurance companies will look for any excuse possible to increase your rates.

i.e. I live in Ohio (cincinnati to be exact), if i drive across the bridge and get a speeding ticket in Kentucky, those 2 points from the kentucky speeding ticket do not go against my ohio pts total. the ohio bmv receives a notice from kentucky bmv stating that the incident occured. the incident is applied to my overall driving record however doesn't count to my points total because it didn't happen in state.

just expect an insurance rate hike.

The information will be available to your insurance company. If they search your driving record, they will find it and it could affect your rates.
