Actually there ARE such thing as negative calorie foods. Remember a calorie is a unit of measurement for energy, so in order for food to have negative calories, it must have fewer of these units of energy than we use in consuming it. In other words, it takes/burns more calories by chewing or eating the food, than the food actually contains. However, with celery, the negative calories comes from our inability to extract the energy from cellulose in the plant. As far as replacing a workout with negative calorie foods, it would be really, quite pointless. As it takes 3,500 calories to work off one pound of fat, it wouldn't make the slightest dent in any weight loss plan. Some though believe otherwise, but if I were you I'd research those diets too see what the evidence shows as far as it being successful.

I don't know about neg. calorie foods... but portion control, and calorie counting helps alot... I've been on a 1300/day calorie diet, taking Relacore, with no exercise, and in 7 days I've lost 4 LBS. Portion control, means looking on the box, bottle or bag of EVERYTHING you ingest, and measuring out the serving size according to the nutritional facts table on whatever you eat or drink... ex: 1 cup of Crispix cereal has 120 calories, and then you add to calories for a cup of milk... and so on, and do this for the whole day, everyday until you lose the weight you want to... a fast diet is 1300 calories a day... a medium diet is 1500 calories per day and a slower diet is 1800 calories per day. That's how I'm doing it.. and it's working so far... :) But as always talk to your doctor first. Good luck!

If you go to far into negative calorie deficit you will begin burning your muscles before you do fat and you will still look fat and be fat (percentage will grow) even if you have lost pounds on the scale. Balance your diet and you can lose weight without exercising but that means your intake will be much less. You would have to take in less than your body burns just by normal activity in day. If you can exercise at all you can lose weight much quicker and still be healthy.

I have never heard of "negative calorie" foods. I imagine you're referring to "catabolic" foods, foods that take more energy to digest than there are calories in them. See the link below.
For overall health though, it's still best to exercise when you can.

No. There is no such thing as negative calorie foods. Don't believe that for a minute. Carrots are high in vitamin A but they are also high ont he glycemic index.

actually the only negative calorie food is celery - it takes more energy (calories) the chew and digest than it contains. and if you eat it with peanut butter, or dip, then it is no longer negative.
