A banana is not going to cover your gym energy.. and if you are hungry eat breakfast/lunch whateva. So you have alot of energy, your metabolism will already be high because you're not starving so it makes excercising more effective. Being hungry just slows down your metabolism, eat soemthing with protein, makes you fuller for longer and fruits (fiber also makes you fuller longer).

Dust is right. The most important exercise in the gym is going there and you will be arguing with yourself all the time to cut down on this weight or this number of reps or this distance. And you will be telling yourself that I burned these calories on the treadmill so I can eat more. The banana will be enough, you just have to do it.

Unless you're homeless and haven't had a good meal in days, you probably have enough in you to be energetic at the gym. Don't use "energy" as an excuse to overeat. You can wait a few hours and eat when you are done exercising.

Protein. A piece of cheese or a small handful of nuts. You don't want to be too hungry when you go to the gym, nor do you want to be stuffed.
