I haven't once flamed you or insulted you or made fun of you because you don't share my faith. I'm not even trying to shove it down your throat. I don't even think badly of you for disagreeing with me.

Would you kindly show me the same respect? I don't appreciate you bashing my beliefs or my faith or my God.

Seriously...look through all my answers and questions...even when I *know* you're asking a question just to rile up Christians, I answer the question respectfully, and in such a way not to try to force my beliefs on you. I simply explain what we Christians (or at least I as a Christian) believe, and let you make your own judgments.

Could we dispense with the things that insult my faith and values? If you want to know more about my religion and beliefs, I'll share it with you, but please don't just make fun of it.

Very respectful question and, unfortunately you'll probably be ignored.
I hope not, though. Most people who are antagonistic to Christianity would never dream of being so disrespectful of Islam or any other major religions. Apparently, Christians are the only remaining group of people it's ok to be rude and obnoxious to.

Scott I fully agree that there should be much more respect between those who hold a faith and those who do not.

It is unfortunate that some who believe in God take the very fact that others do not as either an insult or a cue to start preaching to them about how they're sinners or going to fry in hell, etc. etc. This is also disrespectful.

I do not "bash" Christianity unless Christians "bash" my beliefs. I am fully prepared to accept that others have different beliefs to my own - the world is a richer place as a result. The difference is that I prefer not to act in a smug, superior and hypocritical manner towards those who believe differently to me, a state of affairs which is not always reciprocated by the more fanatical of your co-religionists.

You have a perfect right to believe whatever you want. What neither you nor anyone else has is the right to impose your beliefs on anyone else... for example in matters of abortion, religious education in schools, teaching creationism to the exclusion of evolution, human rights (e.g. in homosexual relationships) and a whole host of other issues where people with views and beliefs different to the strident religious bible-thumpers get "disrespected", shouted down and trampled on.

Spend some time around my extended family of Jehovah's Witnesses. You will feel what it's like to be slighted. Please tell me that Witnesses are not representatives of Christianity. Why are they so cold? Why did one of them pray silently in front of me before he ate his stack of pancakes? Why did he sneer at me while talking? Was it because he was freshly-indoctrinated through Kingdom Hall?

I'm sorry, it has been almost two years and I'm still upset from my last visit. Motel 6 may be cheap, but at least they'll leave the light on for you. This family leaves for Kingdom Hall as soon as you arrive. Man, I'm so upset even after 20 months. Too much caffeine this morning, I guess.

Don't take it too personally.
It's just some, not all, are scared of what they do not know and do not care to find out.
Usually I see if the answers are derogatory in fashion, they have little knowledge and it is easier to bash than to listen.
Keep on.
God Bless.

Scott, you sound like a good candidate for Pangelism (a way of living that treats others with tolerance and respect, even in the midst of disagreement). It is compatible with most religions and non-religions alike. I agree with you that insults are not needed, especially to those who are respectful. We should reap what we sow. Thus, if we sow civility we should reap civility. There are many of us who are trying to do just that. Carry on, my friend. Blessings in the Light of Christ!

But what if these 'Christianity-Bashers' hold the belief that Christianity is something to be made fun of. Should they not be allowed to hold that belief? After all, no one is forcing you to read or respond to their questions. If they insult you personally, then by all means report them or whatever. But people are allowed to ridicule whatever beliefs and ideals they like, that's free speech.
Do you know who didn't allow people to make fun of his beliefs? Hitler, that's who.

people who believe Catholics are not Christians of course are no longer properly versed in religious history. Protestants and Roman Catholics share the straightforward floor of being based upon faith in Jesus Christ. The time era "Catholic" comes from the Greek, "KATHOLIKOS", meaning "in the process the full, or popular," . "Catholic" became used as a usual connection with the full Christian church until the reformation era in the early 1500's. Martin Luther began the pass in direction of reformation on the eve of All Saints Day, October 31, 1517. From the beginning up of the reformation, in the process the centuries distinctive Protestant denominations have been created. subsequently, Catholics are particularly Christians.

well........ we might insult you because we secretly hate ourselves for not being able to believe in god. we want to but we just cant, there is little love in our life and we know that as soon as our poorly lived life is over there is nothing.

or we just think you are stupid and illogical for believing in an all-powerful being that created everything, while at the same time saying that everything bad in the world is the work of Satan.

I'm not sure which one is the real answer but it's probably the second.

We're not bashing you. We're bashing your religion. It is the same way that people can bash America and not be bashing specific Americans.

The same way some white people think of all black people as hip-hop, gangsta rap loving, high school dropouts with the exception of Condolezza Rice, Colin Powell and Oprah.

(that last part has nothing to do with anything. I just wanted to say it cos I'm an angry black man *another sterotype*)

Tell you what, you get the other followers of your faith to show the same respect you do and we will do the same on this end. Assuming the others on both side will cooperate this should make everything peachy.
