I know afros are outdated, but it's a convenient hairstyle when I'm depressed. If I'm in a good mood, I can put gel in it & plop it in a ponytail.

It can, especially if you don't do it properly. You should section through your hair, and detangle it first. Don't just start picking wherever, you'll tear your hair. If you hair is anything like mine, I know it's hard to work through it all, but if you get a good detangler (I use Motions) when it's wet, comb through it w/a wide tooth come, and then you can pick it out gently, as you shape your fro. Also be sure to trim your hair about every 6-8 weeks to minimize any split ends you have and keep the fro looking tight.

And don't worry girl, the fro is not, nor will it ever be outdated. lol Work it out! Good luck!

Yes, any constant tugging, pulling combing or brushing of your hair will cause it to break off. be gentle with your hair and take your time combing it through. If you want an easy and quick hairstyle that you don't have to constantly tend to, take little sections and your hair and twist them around your finger using a curl cream or hair milk to make little tiny curls. I suggest using Carol's Daughter Hair Milk found at http://www.carolsdaughter.com
