If there is a Trader Joe's in your area then you are off to a good start as their produce is reasonably priced. Good food does not have to be expensive, ultimately you will find that when you eat healthly the food is actually much more filling than all processed foods hence you will consume less and your grocery costs will eventually be around the same. If at first you find it hard to part with $$ then think about the cost of meds that your doctor will try to prescribe you in later life for illnesses caused by the unhealthy foods you have consumed.

Good luck.

Eating healthy can be much less expensive than the standard American diet. First of all it seldom involves fast food which is very expensive (you can buy a good steak for less than a double cheese burger at Wendy's). Vegetables are one of the lesser expenses in a food diet and if you shop green grocers instead of supermarkets you can save as much as 40% and even more sometimes from farmer's markets (since the growers don't want to take the food back with them). If you try to do the stylish diets then you will find yourself spending much more. The ones that sell you the food are very expensive (Nutrisystem) and the food is not much different than what you can find on a shelf of a store. Do a Yahoo search of foods and you will find great answers. You can do it..

I know what you mean I'm trying to eat healthy as well. Stock up on Frozen Vegetables and Lean Meats, those could come in handy when you want to make a Healthy Lunch or Dinner. And if you want to eat healthy on the go, Stock up on Lunch Meat as well. Target and Walmart has some great prices on their Lunch Meat. You know, when your on the go, oack a Lunch you know, Have a Sandwich, Baked Chips or Veggie Sticks and a Bottle of water and maybe a cup of yogurt or something. But really, Stock up on Frozen Vegetables, Lean Meat(Chicken and Turkey), Lunch Meats, Veggies(Salad, Tomatoes, Bell Pepper etc.), Yogurts and Cheese. For Breakfast, have whole grain cereal w. fresh fruit. All those foods will keep you healthy don't go for the Boxed or Canned Foods.

Wow, I know what you mean. When I shop at the health food stores, my bills are twice as much!

I have noticed that some of the larger chain grocery stores are starting to stock "organic" products. Also you can get a much better deal on Fish Oil - Omega 3 at large grocery stores.

Other than that, try to eat less red meat and potatoes, anything that states "hydrogen----" on the label, cut it completely out (it doesn't digest well) as well as "corn syrup".

vegetables are not terribly expensive. Eat as many of them as you can. Stop buying foods in cans, boxes or in the frozen food department and you're off to a good start.

Buy all fresh fruits and veggies and meat. This is much cheaper than buying boxed or canned food.
