I am also worried that saying no will cause tension between Boris and I.

aaahahaha.... MY finace wants HIS dog to be best man.... like other suggestions here, we will have the giant headed pooch be ring bearer. He's likely to see something and take off so real rings off limits.. or he'll eat them the great guts.

when you have a relationship with a dog like that, it's family, nothing less. your brother should have the centre of attention of course, he may not feel dignified walking the dog, but there should be a junior pageboy on hand to handle the dog. it sounds wonderful, run with it, but don't let it be more than you're comfortable with. Boris will understand.

It's a big red flag if she keeps insisting that you have to use her dog as your best man. However a compromise should be met to keep everyone happy. I've seen weddings that have their dog as the ring bearer or with the flower girl and ring bearer. If both the flower girl or the ring bearer is too small to handle the dog, you can have the best man (your brother) walk him down the isle and have him hold onto the leash during the ceremony. Her dog will be there right next to you guys and your brother will get to be the best man and gain the extra attention from the ladies. Plus, I'm sure your brother is probably a better speaker to give the toast than the dog is, hehe. Goodluck, it should make a nice touch to the wedding.

Are you getting married in a church? Most churches won't allow dogs in the church. So that might help you in your cause

I think you are right you should be able to have your brother be your bestman. The dog thing is a bit odd. You could have Boris be a ringbearer or something, or have Boris be in the pics.

You can also tell her that if she wants Boris to be in the wedding that bad he could be her Dog OF Honor LOL.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Why don't you suggest that Boris be the ring dog. You can put the rings on a wreath and he can wear that around his neck. The Boris is not left out and you can still have your brother be the best man. It is worth a shot. Just see what she says. Good luck!

Tell her what you feel about it, and say that although you love her dog you have already been planning to make your brother your best man for quite a while. It's normally not her choice to say who's going to be your best man, that's your choice.
Myself, though, I think it's crazy.
Plus, I don't think it's very wise to bring a dog, it can cause allergies to certain people and it can get wild.

EDIT: Tension between the dog and you? I don't think so... although a dog does have feelings, I don't think it will mind not coming to a marriage...

It dog.. why not have him as ring bear... it be cute..
If you wanted your brother to be the best man just let your fiance know.. it not all about her.. It not her wedding is your and her wedding together... A dog would understand...
But it really up to you.. unless you wanted your brother to carry the dog down the thing.
You should pick who every you wanted to be your best man.. There always groom men...
It doesn't matter if you have not seen your brother either.. Just call him and say hi and tell him you wanted him to be your best man.. Just remember the dog can not give you party.. or plan party for you... So just go call your brother up and talk to him.. The dog can not plan wedding.. or give ideas... Dogs sleep eat and maybe sniff and go for walks...
It your pick for the best man.. It not your fiance pick for best man...
That why there maid of honor... and best man for the groom and bridal to pick.. Why not ask her you pick maid of honor for her... or ask if your cousin daughter can be her maid of honor...
The dog would understand he can be at the wedding...

Have the dog as a ring bearer if she wants it in the wedding. I think she has taken "man's best friend" a little too far, I think having your brother (if that is your choice) for the best man is better because he is human and easier to understand than the dog when you need advice.

The whole concept that people (especially caucasian people) have with their dogs is just beyond me. I mean people treat their dogs better than they treat people on the street. Look, it's your wedding too and you didn't tell her you wanted your ex-girlfriend to be her Maid of Honor, right? She'd kill you, right? No way she gets to tell you who to have as your best man. Your brother, whether you've seen him yesterday or 20 years ago, should be your first pick for best man. But the PICK is YOURS, not hers. Tell her if she's insistent on having the hound in the wedding (and I've seen people do this and it STILL baffles me) then let Boris be her maid of honor. Wow. Good luck.

are you joking? I can understand maybe having a dog in the wedding, but to have a dog as a best man over an actual person that is a little far fetched. why would the dog care?

Maybe Boris could be the ringbearer? Make her happy by including him in part of the wedding, and make you happy by having your brother be your best man. A dog would be a cute ringbearer. = )
