Ebony is a black wood. Ebonics is the name given to dialects of English developed among black people in the US. Slaves from Africa came with extremely different linguistic backgrounds, and it was natural that their English reflects this background. Some uneducated people think that black people should have abandoned everything as slaves, including all of their linguistic background, but this has not happened. Just as southern English and New York is different slightly from standard American English, so is Ebonics.

Well generally ebonics is a language that is made up by the people who speak it , it isnt really a language its like speaking slang. A lot of people in the ghetto speak it, but usually when people start making up words like that it spreads into society and a lot of people start speaking it.

It's a political catch phrase used to justify people using the english language incorrectly. It's been used in regards to people that live in poorer sections of cities- the idea being that these people are receiving less of an education due to the impoverished condition they live in.
