My little sister (11 mths old) fell from a height of 5ft yesterday, she cried for like 10-15 mins untill my mum took her away for a feed.
She slept for 20-30mins and then woke up. She wasn't cryying or anything she was in a bad mood. It was the back of her head that made contact with the floor first, i checked for cuts/ bruises and lumps- there was nothing. She then wet her nappy. After about 3hrs she started playying normally again and she seemed fine, I checked her eyes (they were normal). It's almost 24hrs and she still seems fine.
Any advice? (please answers only if you know what your talking about)

So long as she is fine it sounds like she will be ok. I do know what I am talking about as my son fell out of a shopping cart when he was a baby and fell onto the floor in the store. He is fine so your sister should be ok too. I sure did feel awful about it but it was an accident.

hey again, my son fell from about 4 ft ( the heigth of the top of the crib rail when he was about that old. And he hit his head and shoulder area. I was worried but he was fine. We just let him be moody for a while cuse the head will ache especially if they cried hard or for excessive time. and time is relative to how badly it hurts. five minutes with a stubbed toe is one thing but five minutes racking wails with a cracked skull is a whole different amount of time. If she stopped on her own with just love and cuddles and her eyes were normal, and given that the rest of the day she acted normal if a little moody, she should be fine... a new dolly can clear away a lot of hurts.. ;D

She's probably fine, but it would have been best to get her checked out. Of course after 24 hours it is probably too late to get her checked. It is always best when there is a head injury if there is a lump. If you can feel a small "goose egg" then you know that any swelling is going out away from her brain and not into the brain.

It sounds like she is fine. I have two kids, one is 2, one is almost 4. They can scare you to death with the stuff they do/accidents, but then get up and carry on.
If she has been acting fine, and isn't in any pain, then chances are she is fine. If she is still eating and drinking as normal, sleeping okay (but not longer than usual) and is playing, I think she is good.
Is your mum concerned about her? If you are both worried, then take her to the nurse/doctors and have her checked up, but I really don't think you have anything to worry about.

Really you shouldn't allow a child to sleep soon after a bump to the head. In some cases, children can lapse into a coma for any length of time. Apart from that you seemed to have checked her over pretty well, but I'd watch her closely for the next few days

Although your sister may be fine, take the advice of others on here and get her checked at your local A&E, they wont mind, its what they are there for! Better to be safe than sorry. When my daughter was little I almost had a reserved seat at A&E because she was forever bumping her head. I felt so guilty about wasting the hospitals time, but they said that ANY worries to take her there and they will check her, you will not be turned away x

It's ok for a person to have a sleep after head injury.
If they are going to go into unconsciousness, then forcing them to stay awake will not prevent coma. Plus if you force a tired child to stay awake, then you end up with a really ratty crying child - then you can't tell if theyr'e crying due to pain or just dog tiredness.
If you think they might be in a coma or something - wake them up. If they're asleep, they'll wake. If they don't wake then get help.

At this point, after sleeping and waking up okay and now acting normal, she is probably fine. HOWEVER, if it ever happens again, she should be taken straight to the doctor just in case. People have died from a blow to the head because they thought they were fine - no cuts or bruises - and went to sleep and died in their sleep from internal bleeding of the brain.

Next time, don't take any chances.

My sis' baby (8 months old), also fell, not from as high up, but she cried for awhile as well. The doc/emergency room that she called just said to make sure there are no bumps/blood/etc., that they act as they always do, sleep the same, eat the same, etc.

Next time, I'd suggest taking her to the doc, cos her wellbeing is important, but it does sound like she is ok :) It is nice to see your concern for her

IMPORTANT: Anytime someone, especially small kids, have head trauma, it's important to NOT let them sleep or nap. Head trauma victims often may slip into coma.

I strongly recommend to perform a thoroughly exam by your doctor, have special care with hidden injuries in her brain, some problems are seen after some days or years, an echosonogram is highly recommendable.
