You have to tell them when you are in the chair that it is not short enough. I had that happen plenty of times when I had short hair...it used to be an inch all over. Some stylists just seem to be afraid to cut it too short.

Bring a picture of exactly what you want.
And when the hairdresser done, and if it's still not short enough, say, "Cut more," "or like, "one or two more inches please?"
If you have long beautiful hair, most llikely, their gonna be a little scared.
I would listen to your hair dresser on her reccomendations...I once wanted to be a dark brunette (I'm really blonde) and she advised against it...boy am I glad I listened to her.

My daughter and her friend went in recently to get "very short" haircuts and it turned out kinda funny. My daughter got a medium-length cut, and at first complained that it wasn't cut as short as she'd asked for. Then her friend came out with almost nothing taken off and complained of the same. But later my daughter was happy with hers, and the friend admitted she'd chickened out and hadn't asked for the short cut.

i'm a hairstylist and have only cut 'it all off' once and i about had a heart attack! thank GOD she loved it.
she went from being able to sit on her hair to a 'buzz cut' all at once.
i don't ever want to feel like that again so i have clients make an appointment at least 3 days in advance for more than 10 inches. i need that time to calm myself enough to do the cut.
i also have the client bring in pictures. fringe like this; back like that; around the ears like this; poofy like that; straight like this etc.
try going to a barber if it's 'that' type of cut. they don't do texturizing, so if you need that too, you might need to do the barber first then go to a stylist to texturize it. most won't charge you for a full s/c/bd (shampoo/cut/blowdry).
hope i could help
take care.

So you want a 'Britney Spears' aye? Well, personally that's never happened to me where they wouldn't take enough off, but the other way around has happened before, where they took way more than I wanted off. Just show them at what point they should stop cutting and tell them not to stop until the job is done. Simple.

If you have long or longer hair the stylist mught be a little leery of cutting everything off at once. If he or she cuts some off and you want more just tell them to cut more off. They wont mind thats what the get paid to do.

if you have blonde hair it will naturally get bleached by the particular sun in the summer. There has been this guy in my class who else had golden blonde hair that had been a medium brown near the base. When he came back to university after summer vacation, it was practically platinum blonde!
