There are limits for what is acceptable, and pilots will commonly try to go around severe weather whenever possible, but this is subject to the limitations imposed by air traffic control in the specific area and time.
Thunderstorms do not have a major impact on landing or takeoff, although they may be slowed, but ground handling (loading/unloading/fuelling) is slowed or stopped if lightning is detected in the area.
Generally, however, the answer is yes, large commercial aircraft take off, fly through and land during bad weather.
Passengers may experience some discomfort, but between modern aircraft performance levels and pilot skills, there is usually very little reason for concern.

When I was on a flight home from Lanzarote to the UK there was thunder storms across some of the land we were supposed to be flying over so the pilot informed us and said we would be taking a detour around that whole area. It took 40 minutes longer but all was good. Don't worry they will avoid such weather conditions to make the journey as pleasant as possible. Have a good journey.

The pilots will often reroute the plane if the weather is causing uncomfortable turbulence. Most of the time passenger aircraft fly well above any bad weather, like thunderstorms. Probably the only time you would have to fly through bad weather is during your departure and during arrival.

well it depends on how bad it is. when you first take off you are going to have to go threw the cluds and stuff. but once you are above the clouds it isnt bad maybe some turbulance. but if you are approaching a storm that may effect the safety of the flight they will avoide it and reroute ther flight around the storm. lightning can damage the plane but they have lightning rods that carries it off the plane. it is rare that weather brings a plane down in the middle of a flight

No usually if it is severe they will cancell, but you'll do fine I have been in a couple of flights where there is a little turbulence in the air but nothing that the pilots couldn't handle, chill out the passenger's are the first cause of safety to the pilots when traveling! good luck and have a safe trip!

Whenever possible the pilots try to fly over and around bad weather. You should be fine.

They do both. Can't predict next weeks weather. You are going to get yourself all upset and the weather will be fine.
Relax, bring your ipod and chill out.
Good luck

climate is unpredictable one. we won't be able to say if the climate on the day of your holiday is undesirable or outstanding. even although that's extra useful to make certain your self first. Cancel your flight if the climate is merely too undesirable. risk-free practices first. I choose that your flight day could have a outstanding climate. Have a secure practices holiday. :-)
