well to help....Darwin is the god of atheists. Darwin wrote a book about species and RACES. Race separation and how some are lower than others. Is the light coming on yet to why they didn't take to you well? You could of walked up with 2 PhD degrees and it wouldn't of mattered. Not all are like this, but a good handful.

Yikes some story, sounds a bit like a Christian trying to make a point through a parable, but I'll bite.
If this really happened, I am sorry. The people who you talked with are clearly stupid and ignorant. Unfortunately you will find those types of people everywhere in the world. The fact that these ones happen to be Atheist doesn't mean that Atheism is invalid, or that all Atheists are racist. I think you will find there are many black Atheists. There are also many racist Christians, Muslims and Jews. Those racist people don't represent their entire religions, just as the jerks you spent time with don't represent all Atheists.
Keep looking, you will find the truth.
Try searching online. Wikipedia is a great place to start.

>i talked to some atheists cause i was interested in joining the club
Uh, it's not a simple choice of being an atheist or not being an atheist. A religion (or lack of one) is not something you choose, it is merely a description BASED ON your beliefs. Whatever you'd like to believe, your religious description is based on what you ACTUALLY DO believe. If you don't believe in God, you're an atheist, and if you do you're not, it's not really a choice you can consciously make.
>they didnt like it that i didnt know much bout atheism
Well, I'm sorry to say it but judging from the fact that you seem to think you can simply choose to be an atheist, it looks you actually do not know very much about it. :\
>do all atheists act like they are smarter than other people?
Well, many of them yes. The smart ones do because they actually are, and the dumb ones do because they want to think they are. The same goes for most other people in the world as well.

Well there are plenty of black atheists. I know at least two, which given the lack of blacks in the area I live in is probably a little above the overall population as a percentage. There are a few here that I know are black, though I haven't seen them lately. And there are probably a few here I don't know are.
Second, I don't know why they were giving you a hard time but be aware that we usually assume that you are a Christian who is giving us a hard time since that happens a lot. Even if you said you weren't they may have thought you were lying.
Finely, if they were idiots why would you want to hang around with them anyhow? There are plenty of books to read and learn. It isn't like there is any organization that most of us belong to. And it isn't like there is a set of beliefs. There are plenty of us here to talk to if you want to learn.

Here's a hint: atheism is not a religion, and does not have ANY beliefs. That's all there is to atheism: a lack of beliefs.
Evolution, also, is not a belief. It is a scientific theory, meaning it is a framework explanation for a large amount of observed facts. Other notable scientific theories include: gravity, heliocentrism, cell theory, atomic theory, tectonic plates, and elliptical orbits.
It sounds like the people you were talking to were just bitter jerks, but I don't know how you were asking the questions you were asking.

atheist shouldnt be called a unfavorable term because of fact this is the main maximum magnificent term to define somebody who isn't a theist. As you stated, absolutely everyone might nicely be a naturalist, yet while if a Christian or non secular individual asks an atheist in the event that they suspect in God, the term atheist is the ideal in advantageous condition, extremely than asserting, no, i'm a naturalist, understand what I advise?

Its just that particular group of people, thats all. I'm Christian, but I have friends and contacts on this forum who are staunch Athiests. They are polite, respectful, funny and very nice to communicate with.
You need to remember that no matter what group you are looking at, whether it be athiests, Christians, buddhists, or even a knitting group, you are gonna find nice people and you're gonna find ignorant people who are not very nice.
Hey, I've seen Christian "clicks" where they would act the exact same way. Its not the belief, its the people you've chosen to group with. They are not worth your time of day. Hang in there!

Sorry to pop your bubble, but there are atheists of all colors and persuasions.
Atheism isn't a religion that one "joins". You don't "convert" as you would to a church.
Atheism is a philosophical position that one is convinced of. If you believe there is no god, you are an atheist. If you somehow decide that you "want to be an atheist", and then try to find out about atheism, you're doing things backward.

You're just hanging around idiots., that's all
Atheism does not require a specific belief in anything except that atheists genereally don't believe in the existence of a god. Its that simple. It's not a "club".

I think you were just speaking to some unintelligent Atheists -just idiots in my opinion. I am white and Atheist too and I am never rude to anyone. I don't know where you found those people but, stay away from them and find some who actually have a brain.

Last I checked knowing about evolution and believing in it wasn't a criteria for being an Atheist.
From my experience here on Y!A, yes, most atheists think they're better or smarter than theists of any type. But, they all demand equality. Right on.
