What's the difference between a relaxer and a perm?
What is the expected goal of each one for your hair?
Are there any pros and cons with each one?

It would be good if some of my black sisters would address my question too. I'm caucasian, but I have very tight curly, frizzy hair and I have been trying to research to find out the best and safest way to relax and looen my curls but still keep them.

And I have color treated hair that I know I will not stop coloring yet. Yes, I know you have to wait atleast 7-14 days between coloring and perm/relaxing. I have ran across that info already.

a relaxer loosens your curls so its easier for you to straighten but it will not straighten your hair completely, and a perm is when you get curls and you`ll have them until they grow out. there are definetely pros and cons with each one, i dont really recommend a relaxer unless you absolutely need it because it damages your hair plus you`ll still need to style it on your own, it no miracle worker, and with a perm that also damages your hait but if you want curls then go for it, you just need a great shampoo and conditioner, maybe redken fresh curls, that works great. good luck!

Relaxer: Makes curly hair straight.
Perm: Makes straight hair curly.
Both can dry out and damage your hair. Perms smell very bad.

1. relaxer is for African American women who prefer their hair not to be a Afro a perm makes any persons hair curly
2. relaxer to "relax" your hair perm to bring curls and volume
3. relaxer not sure I'm white so never had one perm their are different types of perm rods and sometimes the perm comes out different than you wanted or expected

a relaxer is a 'black girl perm' to permanently straighten the curly hair.
a perm is a 'white girl' thing to permanently curl straight hair.
if left on too long each can burn the scalp and hair.
if done correctly each can make hair more manageable.
