One glass of wine certainly does not ruin a diet. A 5oz. glass of wine has about the same caloric content as an 8oz. glass of grape juice, however, many red wines, and also Spanish Pinot Grigio, contain an enzyme called resveratrol that is currently undergoing a great deal of analysis because experimental findings indicate that it may have tremendous beneficial effects on the metabolism and various other internal workings, such as the heart and respiratory system. In incredibly high doses with lab mice, it actually extended their lifespan by some 30% and kept them youthful much longer. So feel free to have that glass of wine, red wines and pinot grigios in particular, but just remember to add the calories into your daily total as though they were normal calories. Check out the research on resveratrol as well, it may or may not be what keeps the French so thin:

No! There is not one food or drink that will "ruin" a diet. I'm a firm believer in everything in moderation. Red wine is a healthier choice, but even a glass of white wine won't hurt you if taken in moderation.

I think the key to "dieting" is incorporating your must-have foods with the healthier stuff. I'm a self-proclaimed choc-o-holic but I try to eat dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate. It's better for you, and I like it better too!

I've always heard that one glass of red wine with dinner is good for your heart. Now, I don't know the validity of that, but I don't see how a single glass would ruin your diet.

Exercise moderation and you should be fine, I would think.

Not unless you drank several bottle of wine! Everything in moderation. The key to losing weight is decreasing overall calories. If you are still able to consume less calories than your body burned for the day, you should still be on the weight loss band wagon!

Not necessarily. My diet, LA Weight-loss, allows me to have it; just as along as I count it as a starch.

No, but don't overdo it.
