Treatment
Conjunctivitis requires medical attention. The appropriate treatment depends on the cause of the problem.
For the allergic type, cool compresses and artificial tears sometimes relieve discomfort in mild cases. In more severe cases, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications and antihistamines may be prescribed. Some patients with persistent allergic conjunctivitis may also require topical steroid drops.
Bacterial conjunctivitis is usually treated with antibiotic eye drops or ointments that cover a broad range of bacteria.
Like the common cold, there is no cure for viral conjunctivitis; however, the symptoms can be relieved with cool compresses and artificial tears (found in most pharmacies). For the worst cases, topical steroid drops may be prescribed to reduce the discomfort from inflammation. Viral conjunctivitis usually resolves within 3 weeks.
To avoid spreading infection, take these simple steps:
· Disinfect surfaces such as doorknobs and counters with diluted bleach solution
· Don’t swim (some bacteria can be spread in the water)
· Avoid touching the face
· Wash hands frequently
· Don’t share towels or washcloths
· Do not reuse handkerchiefs (using a tissue is best)
· Avoid shaking hands

Get in to see your doctor today ot tomorrow. If they can't see you before the weekend, go to a walk in clinic! The clinics take insurance and will have you in & out in half an hour. I love walk in clinics, they're open long hours 7 days a week!
If it's an infection your eye doctor or primary care physician will prescribe antiobiotic eye drops. You will have to be re-checked by your doc to be sure you don't have an antiobiotic resistant strain. If your eye doesn't repond to the eye drops, you will have to take oral antibiotics.
It's highly contageous so don't share towels, use papertowels to dry your hands. Wash your linens in hot water, change your pillow case every day. Wash your hands all day every day, wash before and after using the bathroom!
Until the eye has been declared healthy do not wear contact lenses, do not wear eye make up or use anything in/around your eyes. If you have used make up since the eye became infected, throw it away!
It'll heal very quickly once treatment starts, so get to the doctor and feel better soon.

I have had this many times. Always see a doctor to prescribe an antibiodic treatment. This will help, but to keep the pink eye away there are many things you need to do. If you wear contacts, change them. Wash your hands constantly. Throw away your eyeliner and mascara. Your pink eye in one eye can go to the other eye if your not careful.

You might want to see a doctor who might prescribe eyedrops. Pink Eye is extremely contagious so be sure to wash your hands frequently.
