Blisters are generally caused by friction, so your shoes are most likely the wrong size and/or broken down and need to be replaced. You should not wear all cotton socks, as they will not pull the perspiration away from your skin, and you basically end up running in wet socks (sorry, that sounds awful but it is the truth.) A blended and cushioned sock will help.

Please go to a reputable shoe store where you can have your feet measured and try on various styles of shoes. Most peoples feet do change with the aging process and weight fluxuations, and we do not change out shoe sizes as we should.

You may want to invest in some new cushioned socks as well, such as Thorlo, as they will absorb shock and pull the perspiration away from your skin and out through the shoe, so that your feet are not sliding around during the running motion. You should try on your footwear choices with the socks that you will be wearing.

If you have a wider foot with a high arch you may want to try on choices in Saucony, New Balance and Adidas. If you have a more narrow foot, you may fit into Nike better.

Make sure that you allow a least a thumbs width of length in front of your longest toe when you are standing in the shoes, you want room for your toes to spread out without hitting the front or top of the toe box.

Many of the better sportshoe stores will have trained employees who can help you in your choice. Ask as many questions as you need to, and make sure that you wear your choice(s) around the store to make sure of the fit and feel.

Most stores will allow you to return the shoes, as long as they are not worn outside within a reasonable period of time. You can wear them inside several hours before you take to the road.

Best of luck, and keep up the good work on maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Blisters are caused by the friction between your feet and your shoes. One possibility is that your shoes do not fit correctly at the front of your shoes where you get the blisters (toes and the ball of right foot). If you feel that you don't have enough room there, then your shoes do not fit you correctly. Since your blister occurs on both of your feet, I think this may be the culprit. Before you go out and buy brand new shoes, here's a few other suggestions you may wish to try.

Another contributor of blisters is the buildup of excessive moisture. There are plenty of moisture wicking socks on the market that can help. I have heard of people using talcum powder or baby powder helps to reduce moisture.

However, since the source of blisters is the friction between your feet and shoes, my favorite approach is to simply apply petroleum jelly (e.g. Vaseline) in the area where you anticipate a blister. There are Vaseline-like products that are less oily like the Glide, which I like.

Good luck getting rid of your blisters.

I have been told that a good running shoe should fit perfectly from the beginning. They should not have to be "broken in". So my best guess is that your shoes are causing the discomfort. I am planning to go to a specialty shoe store for runners for my next pair of shoes. The staff is trained to measure all aspects of your foot, including the arch and width. They also take into account HOW you run, such as the way your foot rolls when it strikes the ground. You might want to try going to one of these stores for your next pair of shoes. They will be a little more expensive, but you'll get the right fit and it should alleviate the blisters.

Hi,I Used to run,also...do not increase your running, untill you get diffrent shoes,,,heres a few guidlines...1.hold the shoe in both hands under the toe and heel.try to bend it,if its hard to bend, its bad.,,2.always buy shoes that have extra 1 or 1 1/2 in. in the toe.[like your mom used to measure by feeling your big toe].When you run, your foot slides BAM into the front of the shoe.3.always buy a half a size,or a full size bigger then your normal shoe. You can also wear 2 pairs of socks..,,,good luck!

It sounds like the problem is the shoes. Good fitting, quality shoes will not give you blisters from the very first time you wear them. Since this happens regulary regardless of your distance then it is not you or your feet that cause this blister.

Get some brand new socks, running in older socks can do that to ya. Also, if you just recently started running that is fairly normal. Keep up the good work!

try to let them heal. do your shoes fit you right and are they for running. if not, try investing in some decent running shoes. [vans, sandals, converse, etc. are not good] indoor soccer shoes, basketball shoes, and shoes designed to run in are great. there's some socks that help your feet breath, but that's about it.
