Citalopram is antidepressant but not that strenuous , my GP calls it a "tonic for the brain" , it contains banana extract which help to produce serotonin in your brain , low levels of serotonin cause anxiety and depression .
I used it once a few years ago , it did help me a lot and i would highly recommend it to anyone who suffers depression.

I take it now again, this time i had side affects for couple of weeks -insomnia, feeling sick , lost of appetite . But i am perfectly fine now and feel really good .
Citalopram doesn't kick in straight away , it takes effect after 3 - 4 weeks .
You start from low dosage then slowly increase it , then again slowly decrease it to the minimum . Your doctor will advice you on dosage and the lenght of time ( depending on your condition)
YOU CAN NOT stop taking Citalopram suddenly , it will cause major problems if you do .

This is my experience , but everyone is different .
Hope it will help and good luck .

I take Citalopram and have for years. I'm very happy with it. I feel normal on it. My symptoms were extreme sensitivity to stimuli (voices, lights, smells, etc) to the point where I hated being around anyone. It took the edge off to where I feel normal. I'll always be sensitive, but with Citalopram it is okay. I never had any bad reaction to it and one nice thing is that it's generic now, so it's cheap.

Anxiety can cause depression and depression can cause anxiety. Depression isn't alway sitting around crying. It can show itself in fear, anger, anxiety, etc. I tried Buspar once and it made me a nervous wreck.

I've also gone off Citalopram and was off it for a few years. I decided I feel better on it. When I went off it I had no withdrawls. My advice is to try it. Give it at least a few weeks to be sure.

i was on citalopram for around 18 month to treat anxiety.

At first they gave me a weird floaty sensation, but after a while i got used to there effect. They dont space you out like some of them and they dont really make you feel any different just 'normal'
they did in the first few wks suppress my appetite to the point were i never ate so remember to eat
they also are better to be taken on an evening, i used to take mine around 2hrs before bed.

They helped me and hes hoping they help you x

Ew Citalopram is nasty. Gave me insomnia, ruined my sex drive and I ate like a pig. Buspar is far better because you take it only when you need it. It's not addictive, and it is actually for anxiety. You don't need to take an antidepressant for anxiety sweetie. Been there, done that and got no anxiety relief at all. Ask to try Buspar.

I have taken this for many years, never had any bad side effects and it's seemed to help quite a bit. I recommend this personally. I take it in combo with a mood disorder script called abilify (which can have obscure side effects btw. ) IF Dr. recommends that, get all the facts about it first :)

Don't take it, it is impossible to get back off again. You will feel like you are walking around in a bubble and that everything is going on outside of it, sex goes out of the window too.
