I would go to Rio De Janeiro, but at the end it all depends on your tastes :nature Versus a Urban sea resort.

You should visit the northeast capitals. They are very beautiful and secure. There is an amazing place near you, called "Lençois Maranhenses", in the state of Maranhão (it is a giant place with white sands and lakes. Rio de Janeiro is beautiful, but there is a serious security crisis there. I've never been to Amazon. In fact, I'm brazilian and I stayed in Rio just one time for business ( but I didn't liked it: I had never seen so much poverty in the same place at the same time. I felt very insecure. But I want to be honest that I stayed only 4 hours there).

Two different worlds. Rio is beautiful but is dangerous. Amazon is another parallel world, not so beautifull to see without propper guide and expensive air tickets. If you arrive in Manaus, just the city (Main city in Amazon state, you will see a lot of things but limited to the city) Go out and check out rainforest is another thing.

Try to go to "Fernando de Noronha" - close to natal and such beautiful place to dive and be far from civilization.

Hi, I went up the Amazon on a cruse boat, what a fantastic experience! try to get as far up a Manaus, and see the Opera house in the jungle, the two tributaries of the river join up there, wow! also Santarem and Belem are worth a visit!
