This is a surprise I thought I would get more people saying it has nothing to do with the devil but instead I'm getting more devil answers. Interesting.

Yep, I also find it rather amusing... The things one may see...

Last century some christians banned the wizard of oz' series.... why? because they said that, speaking about theology or any other silly reason, there cannot be good witches and wizards...

Nowadays... in broad 21st century... they still think so....

Quite Amusing!!!!

Greetings!!!

Most religions are fear-based, so it doesn't really susprise me, and fundamentalist Christians are particularly bad about seeing demons behind every bush and rock.

I'm not religious, but I can see how religious people who consider witchcraft to be Satanic might feel threatened by a series of books that treats magic as benign. From my own perspective, there is no such thing as magic or Satan, so it's all much ado about absolutely nothing. The books involve magic, but they are not about magic. They're about the trials and tribulations of growing up and learning to become a responsible adult. Magic is just icing on the cake to make it more interesting to read. It's Merlin and Arthur, the sword Excalibur, and Alice down the rabbit hole.

I am guessing you are young and don't see things as adults do. When I was a kid (way back in the 80's) we use to get into heavy metal like Dio, Iron Maiden, etc. At the time I loved the music and had posters of them all over my room. Dad and his church use to preach how it was the devil, how it was devil worship, etc and I just laughed. Said you've never heard any of to know what you are talking about.

Well today as an adult, I can easily look at those items I did and easily see how they are the devil and such items.

I myself have only seen 1 harry potter movie....but I can tell you as a 37 yr old male.....they are the same as dungeons and dragons, etc. Its stuff you shouldn't be watching, playing with or having anything to do with. I know this sounds stupid and just like a parent preaching, but its the truth.

If you are a follower of the Bible and all, then I will use this passage:

Deuteronomy 18:9-14

9 “When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. 10 There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, 11 or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. 12 For all who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out from before you. 13 You shall be blameless before the LORD your God. 14 For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the LORD your God has not appointed such for you.

If you don't follow the Bible in all.....all I can say is....would you want to see your child doing it all. And before you just say "sure", really think it through.

Well...in one of the books a guy drops baby Voldemort into a cauldron of boiling something. Then cuts Harry's arm to take some blood, take's a bone of Voldemort's father from the grave near them, cuts his own left hand and puts them all into the cauldron, and an big fully formed Voldemort comes out of the cauldron. What would you call that?

hey there "top contributor" don't diss iron maiden!
in fact, my spouse, son, and i are going to the black sabbath and megadeth concert tonight in toronto!
they are not devil worshippers. in fact, niko, the drummer for iron maiden is a very good christian! most of maiden's songs are about war, not religion.

and to answer the question, we love harry potter and he has nothing to do with the devil or even real witchcraft!!!!!!

Yes, it always tickles me. They are so ignorant they don't even see it for what it really is. The books have so much imagination! Those who condemn harry potter do so on hear say from someone else who has never read the book.

even if Harry Potter was remotely based on a legend of long ago or something, thats no reason for someone to hate it. Magic opens the mind, and causes people to be more creative, and if creativity is such a bad thing to christians, it is no wonder they are so anal and uptight.

I agree, it's absurd. I'm a Christian and I don't understand how people can make those claims. Harry Potter emphasizes sacrificial love, justice, and courage--last I checked Jesus loves these things.
