Actually there isn't a 30-year gap.

Luke 2:41-52 has an account of an occasion when Jesus was 12 years old. If He began His early ministry at 30, there's only an 18 year gap.

What 30 year gap. Apparently you are looking at a Bible which is missing part of Luke chapter 2. It covers the 30 year period between Jesus birth and baptism with several events.

There are a couple passages about Jesus' childhood, but not much. This is because Jesus led a rather normal life up until the age of 30. Thus we can assume there was the normal mischief and such, but he did not sin.

The gap is from 13 to 32.

Some apocryphal texts cover other gaps.

......and this from a top contributor. The Gap is filled here.

Luke 2:51Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. 52And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
