I've been offered a job at a mid-scale Country Club and I'm not sure if I should take it. I would work in the dining room serving the guests lunch and dinner, and also working private parties that members will be having.

I knows these inviduals can be difficult, but if the money is right; It will be well worth it.

Will I make money if I take this job? How much? I'm planning on working weekends, and days during the summer season?

I need money badly and can't be in a job were my income will be low. I have too many financial responsiblies for that. If it helps I'm in my last year of college. I've never known anyone that has worked in a country club, so I don't know hwo they work or if you make money.

Unless this is an extremely unusual situation, you will not make much. Even really nice country clubs don't want to pay any more than they have to - look around and you'll see just as many immigrant workers at country clubs as anywhere else, I wager - and they can get people for a relatively low salary. I just checked a country club receptionist/occasional hostess position and they were talking $6.50 an hour.

By the way, I would not say don't take the job just because of that. There will definitely be valuable skills you will learn. I have huge respect for waiters/waitresses/hostesses who can deal with the difficult people they find.

But if you're looking for maximum money, I'd go for an office position doing something that you know how to do. Sales jobs can be decent, especially if you know something about what you're selling. For example, I've looked into Home Depot, and if you know anything about home repair, electrical, etc. you can do relatively well ($15+). Don't forget that Home Depot also has garden, kitchen/bath, and wallpaper/carpet, so there may be something there you know about.

In short, if you want to make the most money, find a position that (1) requires special skills or knowledge (2) that you have. Any kind of job where the people are almost interchangeable in some people's minds will not pay very well.

Difficult to determine the salary, ask whoever offered you the job.

You could call a few other clubs and ask management (little acting will be involved) what sort of salary you could expect - your doing research re: a summer job, etc.

If members tip (some clubs don't) that could be a plus, or if there is a bonus for working private parties.

Should you take this position, you will need to develop pretty thick skin, and just let any comments roll away. Tough crowd.

I worked at a such a place in administration. I had to refer to all members as Mr. or Mrs., they could call me anything from my name to "hey you", being referred to "that girl" (I'm not a child), etc. do favours without being asked etc., "put my mail in the mail box when you leave for home - that's a sweetheart", on and on.

Good luck.

Country club members generally tip well. You will not get tipped for private parties, that will be one paycheck. If they offered you the job they should have told you how much you'll make. You say you need money badly--a job is a good place to start. If you find another job that pays more, simply quit the country club. If you're only serving them food you won't interact with them enough for them to be too difficult. They order off a menu, you bring it out.

Why don't you ask them how much it is? There is nothing wrong with that. It is business. Of course you need to know that before you can accept a position! So ask them! No one here works at that particular Country Club, so we wouldn't know for sure how much it will pay. In any case, working there is going to be better than not working at all. You say you have too many financial responsibilities to have a low income. Do you have a better option right now?

It depends on the demographics of its members. Some are as tight as a drum, others are very generous. You can do well on weekends, just keep smiling and be charming as ever. When I belonged to a CC, I always tipped the girl extra in cash just for her, and then left a tip to be shared by the Staff on my bill. I worked in aCC to help put me through College, and never forgot how poor I was and what a few extra dollars meant to me.

Something doesn't seem right here.
The fact that you are questing here, shows a doubt.
Suggest you just ask about the salary offered as well as as if you will earn extras if you work overtime. Be candid.
As long as you have to serve in the club, it may be OK.
If you are thinking of tips,I suggest you try meet someone there who is working.
All the best.

if you need money that bad, why don't you get naked and start up your own internet porn site...

country clubs will make you split tips and charge you for everything you eat/drink on the job...

i'd stick to the porn idea :)

THIS JOB FALLS UNDER THE LOW INCOME GROUP. YOU MAY ALSO GET MORE MONEY BY OFFERING YOUR BODY TO THE PEOPLE WHO COME THERE BUT IT IS NOT ADVISABLE.
