Do you lick the spoon to taste what you are cooking and stick it back in the food,like when you are cooking for other people? I think that is so gross,but I'm afraid a lot of people do it!

If someone is cooking something, it really is not that big a deal. When the spoon goes back into the dish as it cooks, any germs that are on it are killed. Even if it didn't, it won't hurt you. There is nothing in that person's mouth that isn't in yours. The only thing that is gross about it is your perception of it. When you really get down to it, was is gross about? If you haven't already, one day you'll kiss someone and give them the tongue and not think twice about it.
If you REALLY feel disgusted about it, then maybe you had better toss out your spoons every time you use one and use brand new ones. Odds are that spoon is not getting 100% clean every time it is washed. Or maybe it touched the counter for five seconds and got some germs on it. Or maybe a bug crawled on it while it was in the drawer. There are worse things than someone licking a spoon.
In the end, if someone needs to know if something is done or tastes right, they are going to have to try it. If they have to try it more than once, that is a lot of spoons and a lot of waste. I think you are overreacting and not being practical.
My thoughts on this go right out the window, however, if the person is sick. If someone is sick and "licks the spoon," then that IS disgusting. Shame on them!

I get a another spoon to taste then put it in the sink after I taste. But the reasson other people do it is they think the germs will die in whatever they are cooking from the heat I think.

No, that is so nasty, the saliva from your mouth has a breakdown compound in it and it will make the food watery. I might lick the spoon and put it in the sink.

Like someone else said. The heat of the food cooking would kill any germs.

I was taught well by my Mother.
In fact I hardly ever taste food I make. When I have guests, I take some out and ask the family to check it out.

its ok if you cooking for yourself or your bfren cos hez got plenty of your spit in his mouth anyway. lol
