why doesn't the book show prices of cars that are older than 1987. like 1986 or 1976

I think it's because they are so old, they are worth less than $1,000 no matter what shape they are in. Unless it's a collector's car, then you'd have to go to someone who specializes in that to get it's value.

There just aren't enough of them and the quality range is huge. So it is hard to give a general price. It's like apples and oranges. They base their figures off the trade-in prices and sales prices of these auto and give an average price.
