You have a good head on your shoulders; that sounds very mature for a teenager.
Just ask him. Bring up convo one day and tell him what your plans are and then ask him about his.

"Ya know Billy, I've been thinking a lot about my future lately. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because we'll be out of high school soon and all...Do you ever think about what you're going to do with your life?" Something along those lines might work :). By the way, that is absolutely not a stupid teenager question :).

Just ask most people are proud to say what they want to do with the rest of there lives. It's an easy way to show off. On the other hand most people don't do what they say they want to do in high school. Life is hard and we don't always make the best choices.

If he has myspace then post the necessary questions a sa bulletin. You could just ask him straight out about it if you like but introduce it so it doesnt seem sudden. eg: I was reading about goals and stuff in a magazine, whats your goals etc? Lastly, just be confident and attentive. Dont seem too eager or he will give a kidding answer.

If you do not want to ask the question directly, when you are together say 'I wonder what my life will be like a few years from now, it's nice to decide what one wants to do in life" then follow it up with "What have you decided you want to do?"
That should get you an answer for sure.

I would just start the conversation casually, "hey, what's going on" and then get to talking. Then put yourself first by saying what you want to do and what your goals are, then you can ask "what do you think, do you know what your goals are" make it like you don't know many who do so he doesn't think you're singling him out, you know? Most will open up if they don't think they're being put on the spot. Good luck!

The next time you're chatting, tell him what you want out of life, and then ask him what he wants.
There's a lot of ways to introduce the topic, like for example, if you're talking about a movie, and you say, "Yeah, I love Jennifer Garner! I want to be as strong and independent as she is, but still have a family. Of course, I wouldn't be an actress, but I'd love to go to college and blah, blah blah... What about you?"

Just ask him nonchalantly during conversation, "what are you passionate about?" another way is to ask him is "What do you see yourself doing 10 years from now" its a very nonagressive question that will probably get you the answer you want.

That's a lot more sensible question than most on here.
Take a tip from the Nike folks. Just do it. Yes, just ask.
Remember though, where you envision yourself and where you go are sometimes stunningly different. Things change, tastes mature. Enjoy him for who he is, not who he wants to be when he grows up.

Just ask him, its that simple. Bring up first what it is that you aspire to do, and then ask him.. Do you have any specific things that you want to do, any goals? Be comfortable with it, dont make it sound forced. Its really an easy conversation to participate on.
