Prayers for Weddings
Opening Prayer
This marriage is a serious covenant made before God and before all of us as witnesses.
In acknowledgment of its Holy Purpose and the power of the occasion, let us pray.
God of Love, who gives us the longing for, and capability of loving, we give you thanks for ________ and _______ , for their open hearts and willing spirits, and for the example of love that they embody here in our presence. Be with them on this joyous occasion of showing their love and making their vows; and be with us, their witnesses, that we may all be changed by what is said and witnessed here.
Another Opening Prayer
Father, you have made the bond of marriage a holy mystery, a symbol of Christ's love for his Church. Hear our prayers for Josie and Robert. With faith in you and in each other they pledge their love today. May their lives always bear witness to the reality of that love
Blessing of the Rings
Lord, bless and consecrate _____ and _____ in their love for each other.
May these rings be a symbol of true faith in each other and always remind them of their love. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
A Prayer as a Reading
"A Marriage Prayer" by Bud Henry Bowmen (adapted)
( you may edit out any lines that do not apply to your situation)
Bless this marriage, O God, as ____ and ____ begin their journey down the road of life together.
We don't know what lies ahead for the road turns and bends. But help them to make the best of whatever comes their way.
Help them to hug each other often, talk and laugh a lot.
Help them to continue to enjoy each other as they did when they first met.
Help them to realize that nothing nor no one is perfect and to look for the good in all things and all people including themselves.
Help them to respect each other's likes and dislikes, opinion and beliefs, hopes and dreams and fears.
Help them to learn from each other and to help each other to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Help them to realize that there is design and purpose in their lives as in the world, and if they will hold onto each other, they will know that things have a way of working out for the good.
Help them to create for their children a peaceful, stable home of love as a foundation on which they can build their lives.
But most of all, dear God, help them to keep lit the torch of love' that they now share in their hearts so that by their loving example they may pass on the light of love to their children and to their children's children forever. Amen
Prayer at renewal of vows ceremony
Gracious Lord our hearts are filled with great happiness as _________ and __________ renewal their marriage vows and today reaffirm their faith and love for one another. And with the passage of time, may they find great contentment in the rich joy of senior companionship. May the home they are reaffirming today truly be a place of love and harmony, where Your Spirit is always present. Bless this marriage we pray and walk beside _________ and ___________________ throughout all of their lives together. Amen

Lord's Prayer / Our Father
Protestant Version
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be they name; Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
Catholic Version
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be they name; Thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Closing Prayer(s)
We ask that the Holy Spirit of love may deepen the lives of Peter and Liliana. May the relationship, which today has been expressed, continue to grow in the years to come. And whatever changes time may bring, let this wedding ceremony remain as a treasured memory and a guide to life.
May they always experience that breathless wonder that exclaims: "Out of all this world, YOU have chosen ME."
When life is done and the sun is setting, may they be found then as now, still hand in hand, still thanking thee for each other. Amen

A Bride's Prayer
Oh Gracious God, my heart is filled with a happiness so wonderful that I am almost afraid. This is my wedding day!, and I pray thee that the beautiful joy of this day will never grow dim. Rather, may its memories become more sweet and tender with each passing anniversary. Walk thou with us even to the end of our journey, hand in hand, down the highway to the valley of the final shadow, which we will be able to lighten with sunshine because of our love and happy lives. Amen.
Hebrew Wedding Prayer
Blessed art thou, O Lord our God, King of the universe,
who hath created joy and gladness, bridegroom and bride,
mirth and exultation, pleasure and delight,
love and brotherhood, peace and friendship.
May there soon be heard in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of joy and gladness,
the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride,
the jubilant voice of bridegrooms from the wedding canopy,
and of youths from their feasts of song.
Blessed art thou, O Lord, who gives the Bridegroom joy in his bride.
Cheers!

Prayer:
"Father in heaven,
You ordained marriage for your children,
and you gave us love.
We present to You _____ and _____,
who come this day to be married.
May the covenant of love they make be blessed
with true devotion and spiritual commitment.
We ask that You, God,
will give them the ability to keep the covenant they have made.
When selfishness shows itself, grant generosity;
when mistrust is a temptation, give moral strength;
when there is misunderstanding, give patience and gentleness;
if suffering becomes a part of their lives,
give them a strong faith and an abiding love.
Amen.

7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. this means, don't chant. Talk to God from the heart without chanting or others written prayers. Use your own words from the heart when talking to God. The rest of the chapter show us how to pray, a guideline. Verses 9 & 10 gives God the glory. the rest is our petitions.

the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 13 (the love chapter)
1 If I make use of the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am like sounding brass, or a loud-tongued bell.
2 And if I have a prophet's power, and have knowledge of all secret things; and if I have all faith, by which mountains may be moved from their place, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 And if I give all my goods to the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it is of no profit to me.
4 Love is never tired of waiting; love is kind; love has no envy; love has no high opinion of itself, love has no pride;
5 Love's ways are ever fair, it takes no thought for itself; it is not quickly made angry, it takes no account of evil;
6 It takes no pleasure in wrongdoing, but has joy in what is true;
7 Love has the power of undergoing all things, having faith in all things, hoping all things.
8 Though the prophet's word may come to an end, tongues come to nothing, and knowledge have no more value, love has no end.
9 For our knowledge is only in part, and the prophet's word gives only a part of what is true:
10 But when that which is complete is come, then that which is in part will be no longer necessary.
11 When I was a child, I made use of a child's language, I had a child's feelings and a child's thoughts: now that I am a man, I have put away the things of a child.
12 For now we see things in a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now my knowledge is in part; then it will be complete, even as God's knowledge of me.
13 But now we still have faith, hope, love, these three; and the greatest of these is love.
