I have a 2 year old female cat that gets incredibly hyper in the morning and early evenings. She runs around the house like mad, and her tail is sometimes puffed out. She'll also sometimes stop in front of me or someone else in the house, and then jump in the air and run around again. I don't mind this behavior, in fact I think it's entertaining. But I'm just wondering...is she just playing? Is she frightened by something?
She's strictly an indoor cat, is spayed and has all of her claws. She's very affectionate and social as it is, so I'm wondering if she's just burning off pent up energy...

She is just playing. I have a kitten who will wait around a corner for you to walk by, then jump out in front of you, flail her paws and run away. :) Kitties are so silly!

I don't think your kitty is acting strangely at all. Mine is 9 years old and still gets "Spring Fever" every spring, even though she's fixed. She runs around the house and weoows like she's in heat. I think you're right, kitty might have pent up energy. Try playing with her to help her use up the energy and she might learn to sleep at night when you do. A string is with a ball or toy on the end flopping about could become a game for the 2 of you. I don't think she's frightened. I think she's feeling hyper and trying to let it out. As long as she's still loving, and affectionate other times, I wouldn't worry about it. Cats are all different. Like snowflakes. I've had a few and no 2 are the same.

Contrary to common belief, cats are not nocturnal but instead crepuscular which means their greatest period of activity is dawn and dusk. If you think about it, this makes sense since all the things cats in the wild like to hunt (birds, mice, etc.) are also active at these times.
If this is a problem (though you say its not) make sure you give them lots of exercise before bed, you are then likely to get them to sleep longer through the night.

this is very normal you have nothing to worry about i have a ct that's 2 years old and fixed and in the early mornings and late evenings she runs around like a basket case. She's just playing around, if you have lots of space you should try running after her and then turn around and run away from her, if she is anything like my cat she likes the chase either she's chasing something or something is chasing her.

my last cat didn't stop being super active until age 6 or 7. its a good sign, she's indoor so she's got a lot of that energy pent up and when you aren't home, she probably gets bored and isn't as active. enjoy it while it lasts.

She could be just playing, but, if this is new behavior (if she recently started doing it) she could also
--if she's not spayed, she could be in heat. Get her spayed!!!
-have fleas, pain or something else she can't see that irritates her skin or annoys her, causing her to try to "run" from it
-be constipated. Try cat lax
or
-be hyperthyroid. That's not as common in young cats as it is in older ones, but lots of activity can be a sign of hyperthyroidism. If this is new behavior, you may want to have it checked out by a vet.

She's just burning off energy. Most cats have a "crazy time" and morning and evening is usually it. My kitties do this too.

Cats love to play with their owners. I would love it if my cat acted like that. I think she's just having fun or then again it could be cat nip. lol jk

She's just playing. Cats have hunting instincts. She's practicing catching prey on you. It's cute!
