It helps if the area rug does not come with a non slip backing. Or you can sow those non slip inlays for drawers or tool boxes on to the back. You could just put a couple of strips or do the whole thing. Or you could put some silicone or caulking lines on the underneath that will grip the foor once it is dried. Wait till it is dried though lol.

Well, I do because otherwise we would all have broken legs because they slide around when turning the corner from the dining room to the hallway. But I have also seen some marks on the floor from the grids on the pads. These seem to happen when it gets wet, or if the pad is poor quality. The best solution seems to be to occasionally pull back the rug and the pad and clean the floor, and put it back a fraction of an inch different. Our floors are old anyway so I don't worry about the finish that much.

Hi..I have hard wood floor and also two area rugs. I didn't put padding under them. However, some people prefer to do so, helps keep the carpets from moving.

YES!!! the rug looks richer, it doesn't scracth the floor, and dirt flows through, so you can hang things on the clothes line and really give them a clean smell. esp. if it is a good rug .yo dont want to shampoo it to death. really death!! i have a wallmaart rug in my library room ,because i am doing it over and i treat it the same and i may keep it cause if you take care of it most people cant tell the difference.p.s. when i hang them on the line :i use a whole bottle of fabreeze periodically applied . pretty cheap in the long run!

Yes! By using rug pads this keeps your rug from not only sliding; it also prevents it from folding when others walk on or around it. area rugs are used near doors they tend to fold when the door is opened or shut. When you place the pad underneath the rug, helps prevent the fold from happening.

You can put any kind you like that fits your decor. As slipknot says, use a non-skid pad underneath. We have all tile floors with rugs in certain places. All of them have a pad to keep them in place.

They are helpful, but beware that sometimes the rug will still travel while the pad stays in place!
