Hmm, consider you are from an Asian country--say India or China. If you find a job in Dubai you'd get paid X dollars.
You apply for US/UK/Canada/Australia citizenship & finally get one of those passports after waiting 3 years.
You'll notice that the salary which comes with that job will now be twice or 3 or 4 times what you'd get with with your original passport.
It's the same with international travel - you won't need a visa for most countries if you're american. It's because these countries have a lot of money & dominate world politics. Money gets you power.

It has to do with illegal immigration and money. People in the UK, Germany, Japan, USA, or Canada are less likely to immigrate illegally than someone from a poor or oppressed country. The country wants to make sure travelers will leave after traveling and the visa program gives them enough information to make that decision.

"Free" Countries that want/need tourism money realize a visa on "rich" citizens of a country would hurt tourism. They allow them in freely as long as there is a belief that illegal immigration would be to a minimum.

They don't. Some countries have a visa waiver program and they have agreed that they will not need visas. Other countries are not part of the visa waiver so they do need to apply for a travel visa. Normally visa wiver is only for a limited stay of a maximum of 3 months, and longer and some form of visa is needed. Hope this helps.

I believe that citizens of antarctica should be the only ones allowed unrestricted travel.
The rest get the laws they deserve.
