You actually think US national security is at risk because of NKorea? Are you kidding?
The US has 7,000 active Strategic nukes in its arsenal. And you're paranoid that N. Korea is going to develop 1 or 2???
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to count. Or have you been so totally brainwashed by the propaganda coming from our "liberal" mainstream media & "conservative" political leadership???
That's like a guy who owns 7,000 guns... and is afraid that his neighbor down the block is going to get 1 or 2, so the guy with 7,000 is considering making a pre-emptive strike on the other guy before he gets 1. So who's more insane, paranoid, cowardly, and insecure? The guy with 7,000, or the guy who wants to get 1 or 2??
Tell me, whose National Security is really being threatened here: the US, which has 7,000, or N. Korea, which has a few or 0?
As long as we maintain Double Standards (We can have tons of nukes, enough to blow the world up 100x over, but the rest of the world can't have any), we have very little international credibility.
Reverse the situation & put yourself in N.Korea's shoes. If the US had no nukes, but N. Korea had 7,000 of them, what would you do???? Just sit on your hands like a wimpy coward and kowtow to the moral & military leadership of NKorea???
If the US really wanted peace (it doesn't) & N.Korea not to develop nukes, it would pledge disarmament to the world & begin dismantling most of its nukes. THEN the US will have international credibility & the moral ground. But that's not going to happen as long as the American populace is always focused on external "threats", not realizing that WE ARE VIEWED AS THE GREATEST THREAT by much of the rest of the world.
So you are either
1) conservatively paranoid,
2) terrible at math, and can't tell the difference between 7,000 and 1,
3) an impulsive warmonger, or
4) just blissfully uninformed in your Matrix version of reality.
And to prove how voluntarily ignorant & stubborn most of us Americans are, and nearly incapable of admitting when they're wrong, watch this questioner pick an ignorant "best" answer, or just simply cut & run and leave it to vote.
James R: It only takes 1????? Are you kidding me? The reason why anybody would want to take us out is because we are the Goliath of the Globe with an unfair, insane, hypocritical nuclear (& foreign) policy. That's why we're attracting so many underdog Davids with stones & slingshots. The path to peace & parity lies in arms reduction, or even the banning of nuclear weapons (extremely unlikely).

Are you suggesting that we should involve ourselves in a nuclear conflict that would more than devastate a culture but to start something with china because they would surely join in the nuclear war. Oh yes not to mention all the other areas that are innocent of any wrong doing. Just cause is the case for war. Because we have already jumped the gun when Bush said there was weapons of mass destruction. Are you so sure that what is being fed to you through the news is all that accurate?

They won't be able to develop the technology for at least 20 years. They can't figure out how to put a nuclear war head on the missles. They are not that big of a threat for now.

They already have nuclear weapons, possible six of them. At least that's the figure based upon the amount of fissionable material they had available. They are quite proficient in their missile designs, having been caught exporting medium ranged missiles to Iran within the past few years. Granted, their ICBM technology can only reach parts of the West coast of the USA, they still are quite capable of hitting US interests.
Most likely, they are trying to work up a better incentives package. They did this under Clinton's watch, and now they're doing it under Bush's watch.
On a side note to Daffy Duck, I find it interesting that you speculate that Americans are warmongers. Especially given that Europe, all by itself, managed to initiate two world wars that brought utter chaos to most of the globe. Maybe after being dragged into two such conflicts, despite not wanting to get involved in either one, the US realized it must take a more active role in world politics.

north korea's nuclear proliferation program is a threat upon itself, kim jong ill's perceived possession of nuclear missiles is intended to serve as a deterrent to foreign aggression, and america's determination to topple the rogue regime, however, kim jong ill, with his ironclad desire to remain in power in the impoverished nation in my theory, couldn't possibly respond to a preemptive strike by the west through the use of nuclear weapons because it would only ensure the obliteration of his regime through the Mutually Assured Destruction, a term shared by the US and the former USSR during the cold war and remains a policy of last resort for the US administration on whomever wish to challenge the ever increasing might of the US MILITARY

Kim Jong Ill is poor . His country doesn't have the wealth to wage war against us. He wouldn't have the technology he has if Clinton hadn't given it to him. He wants to play with the big kids. But they wont let him so he throws tantrums. Radical Islam is will funded and has the capability to do real harm .It is more Important to go after the real threat.

I don't understand why you Americans are so damn paranoid.
You seem to be obsessed with causing war & therefore you shall never be happy.
Remember you are the only nation to have used nuclear weapons against civilians.
Yes, Pearl Harbor happened , so did 9/11, thousands of innocents were killed.
That doesn't give you cause to become dictatorial & assume the same role of the Hitler you once destroyed.

BTW, Lisa! Wake up!
They've been exporting missles for years and are able to launch satelites. Your "in 20 years" has happened already!
