I am trying to reestablish my relationshipp with the Lord after straying for a few years. When I got saved years ago I studied the bible more than my school books because I was intensely focus on learning verses to know when I needed them. So, I know a lot about the bible, I just need to know more and I don't know which book to start in since I haven't being reading in a while. Any suggestions on which book/verses I should begin with?

I would pray about this and let God tell you where you need to start reading in your bible. Let him lead and guide you to where he needs you to be so he can help you to grow and prosper in his will for you. There are 66 books in the bible and you can ask everyone where to start and you are going to get at least 65 wrong answers to your question. I would seek God and let him tell you where he needs you to be at in your bible. He knows that you are there and that you are rededicating your life. He knows that you looking for answers and he is the only one that is going to have the right answer for you. "Seek ye first the kingdom of God," Pray!!!

The New Testament is generally more digestable than the Old Testament. Read the gospels. I suggest you start with John. After that Paul's letters, and inbetween Psalms!

I am in the same boat as you. I don't have a good answer I just wanted you to know that I thought this was a very good question and if you get any answer I would love to know. I was told to just start at the beginning. You need to know all of it anyway and there is no better place to start than the beginning. Good luck!!!

"There was a man going down from Jerusalem to Jericho who fell prey to robbers....A priest happened to be going down the same road; he saw him but continued on. Likewise, there was a Levite who came the same way; he saw him and went on. But a Samaritan....came on him and was moved to pity at the sight. He approached him and dressed his wounds, pouring in oil and wine. He then hoisted him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, where he cared for him....Which of these three, in your opinion, was the neighbor...The answer came, "The one who treated him with compassion." Jesus said to him, "Then go and do the same."

Luke 10: 30-37

It is not how many verses you can quote, it is how many verses you can live by that count.

John is always good, for new or old hands. Romans, Colossians... it's all good. Pray that the Holy Spirit would guide you, and to open your heart and mind to understanding the things God would have you to know and learn. God bless.

Deuteronomy 31:6
Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you."

See if your church has a bible study. If not, see if you can get one started. there is no one book or verse to know or read. You can only understand the whole.

Philemon talks about forgiveness. And is the apostle Paul asking Philemon to take back the slave that ran away.

1&2 Corinthians would be good too.

Philippians 4 is always good to help keep the right attitude.
